I just want to congratulate you, Baba. I know you didn’t want to attend your graduation, but Mommy is so proud of you.

With everything that has happened and all that we’ve been through, you stayed strong, just like the rest of your Ate’s. I know how close you were to your Ate Shiannel, and I know she was always your go-to person. I also know how much you miss her.

But I am sure she is watching over you today with the biggest smile, feeling proud and saying, “Good job, Nina.”

This would have been one of the happiest days of your life. As I watched the graduates walk across the stage, I couldn’t stop imagining you up there receiving your diploma. I can still picture the smile on your face—the happiness, the excitement, and the pride you would have felt in that moment.

I know how hard you worked for this day. I remember how often you would tell me, “I want you to be proud of me, Mom.” And you know what, Baba? I have always been proud of you and I always will be.

That day should have been your day. I would have been the happiest and proudest mom in that crowd, cheering for you as you crossed that stage.
