Love this so much! I learned to play chess at a young age, and have always loved games of strategy more than chance. Please see below to learn about a chess event hosted by Young Business Men of WA - maybe you know someone who will want to participate or if you can help their nonprofit purchase the chess boards that would be a huge help! If you know of a student that wants to play but needs to be sponsored let me know!
From Thrett Brown / YBMW:
UPDATE! - We just made a little above our halfway mark at $840! Almost there! We are so thankful for our donors and community, but we still need $. Please keep those donations coming. $50 allows our organization to buy one chessboard and one timer for 100 people to compete at our next event. Please help us keep the momentum going!
Our next event is called, Think Before Your Next Move; this is an opportunity for the community to buy in for a $25 fee and compete against each other. Space is limited for the tournament at 100 players, so be sure to register soon. We will have a short program focused on gang prevention and mental health. The chess tournament is for 18 and over. The venue only allows for tournament players. We are excited to see you there! Please email us at [email protected] for any questions or concerns.

In collaboration with the University of Puget Sound, they will host, Think Before Your Next Moe, to celebrate inclusion and mental health at Upper Marshall Hall.
We chose chess based on the collective interest of inclusion and multicultural interaction. Chess supports strategic thinking, which encourages us to think many steps ahead before we make decisions. Playing chess improves mental and emotional health and well-being. This practice also enhances critical skills such as problem-solving and patience. Regularly playing chess improves self-confidence, brain health, and memory and can increase a player's intellectual wellness.
Please help us fundraise for our current need; chess boards and timers. Not only will these boards be used for our tournament fundraiser, but the boards and timers will also be used in the chess club we are building for our youth. We have received some grant money, but we need our last $1,500 to buy boards and timers to complete the event.
We will be keeping tabs with our Queen Fundraising Thermometer. The Queen is the most dynamic piece on the board. With the Queen, we can choose multiple moves to accomplish a victory. Therefore our supporters can decide many ways they can support to make our efforts and fundraiser a triumph.
