Stray dog protects wounded officer. Officer Daniel Reyes was on patrol in Monterrey, Mexico, an area known for its large stray dog population, when a routine traffic stop turned into chaos. As soon as he stepped out of his cruiser, gunfire erupted. Reyes tried to duck behind the vehicle for cover, but a bullet struck him, sending him to the ground.

That’s when something extraordinary happened. A witness from a nearby building captured a photo just moments before a stray dog rushed in. Using the cruiser as cover, the dog crept up behind. As the gunman turned the corner of the car to finish what he started, the dog lunged, sinking its teeth into the man’s arm. Startled, the attacker broke free and fled.

The eyewitness later recalled: “I couldn’t believe what I saw. The officer was down, and the suspect had the upper hand. But then this dog appeared out of nowhere, biting him and giving the officer a chance. That stray saved his life.”

Reyes was rushed to the hospital, where he recovered from his injuries. The dog, once nameless and wandering the streets, was taken in by the officer he saved. He now has a home and a name: Valor
