Our h**p fiber dominate strain trial run is now ready to harvest and has had no care since planting. We disc, top dressed fertilizer, planted, and did nothing else to observe how the strains handled the hot, humid, and rainy summer season. Getting tested for THC compliancy, fiber percentage, and fiber quality this week.

Thanks to mother nature we are no longer worried about watering. We have had an excellent germination rate from the newest h**p fiber/grain seeds planted last Sunday. Hopefully we now can get a couple of days with sunshine and a good breeze.

Cleaned up plastic mulch, knocked down raised beds, and planted 5 new fiber/grain h**p strains. We are excited to use this crop for R&D with multiple companies plus collect vital data for future breeding. We sourced landrace varieties that have been pheno-hunted to get the best of each strain and they are from a climate similar to south Florida. Fiber processing is coming to Florida and having a proven acclimated stable strain is our new goal.

We will also be planting each strain separately at other locations to avoid cross pollination and keep the strains pure.

Our harvesting process started with trimming the fan leaves in the field, cutting the plant up into single branches, quickly moving the fresh cut material into the re**er unit to cool down, and then the team cut the flower from the stems. The fresh flower was then placed back into the re**er unit in vegetable trays for a couple of hours then it was wet trimmed and placed back in the trays for curing. We used food grade crates for the field harvest and trimming of the flowers from the stem and then placed the flower on stackable blue berry trays for the rest of the curing process. Flower was fluffed up in trays daily, trays were rotated for more exposure to air flow and all trays were carefully inspected to ensure we had no microbial issues or other damage to the flower.

This Is the only way we have found to effectively harvest and preserve a large crop, however, if you have a small crop or lots of space we would recommend hanging the whole plant for a slow cure then trim after a week.

Thanks to A&M Cold Storage and Trailer Leasing we were able to pull off a successful harvest of cured flower without a huge investment in a curing structure plus it is mobile. The unit we rented was a 53' re**er trailer with two compartments that have an adjustable wall so you can keep one area for freshly harvested material at 50 degrees, then after a couple of days the flower/ material can be move to the second compartment where the temperature can be adjusted to 68 degrees for a slow cure. The two refrigerator units run off diesel or three phase electrical so you can place the trailer near your field even if no electrical service is available. We did use a single phase 100 amp service to power our fans, dehumidifiers, lights, and trimmer, however, this could have been powered by a medium size generator. The trailer has four floor drains in each corner so we used two dehumidifiers in each compartment to quickly reduce the humidity after harvest to avoid microbial growth during the initial dry down period then to maintain the humidity at 65% during the curing process. The unit was very clean and the staff at A&M were very easy to work with.

Trim time! Giving the freshly harvested MK Autoflower a quick cut before curing.

We are select cutting and averaging 4 oz of cured smokeable flower per plant.

Harvesting the MK Autoflower... we are getting a really good yield and the plot came back at .3 thc so all good go.

The Otto # 2 photoperiod plants will be in week 10 tomorrow. Due to starting them in less than 12 hours of daylight they have started to flower but are still growing and average 3' tall. Fan leaves have not started to yellow and die.

The Bliss Autoflower will be in week 10 tomorrow. They have had dying fan leaves removed and the flower has started to tighten up. Some purping has been observed due to the below freezing temps for 4 hours in late January but not as much as in the MK #4. There is a size variation, however, the majority of the plants are averaging 2'6" with multiple branches. They have a citrus smell and heavy resin.
