Please share some love for Loki and his family! Animal Angels helped sweet Loki get his wings and his family made this wonderful tribute to him!
Our beautiful, sweet Loki; an American Staffy mix, crossed the rainbow bridge on a beautiful sunny Monday afternoon on April 13, 2026, surrounded by his loving family.
Loki came to live with us when he was just eight weeks old March of 2013. A rambunctious puppy, the name Loki fit him just right. Always playful but knowing when to be gentle when his human baby sister Zoey was born in October of 2013.
Zoey and Loki became inseparable the moment she came home. Even though Loki was in a house full of kids and other pets, the bond between him and Zoey was unlike any other. It’s like he knew, she was his, and he was hers.
We are fortunate enough to have 13 years, so many stories, and memories with Loki, just like the one time he and our neighbor dog T-bone ran off to play in a cow field and came back so happy and proud to be covered in all the muck from the field or the time he found all the Easter candy. How he loved little Debbie cakes, lazy days in the sunshine, and afternoon naps but hated car rides and bath time (unless you had peanut butter). Loki was truly a big softie. But in true terrier fashion, he loved hunting field mice, squirrels and playing with the occasional frog. Stuffed animals didn’t stand a chance around Loki.
Loki was an unofficial support animal to Zoey (to me as well). He knew his role. To comfort, support and protect her. I would often come home to find Loki in Zoey’s old clothes with “new” tattoos all over him (Drawn with washable marker) or freshly painted nails for breast cancer awareness. He had a way to calm her like no other. During bad storms, you could find these two snuggled up, waiting for it to pass. Watching these two grow for the last 13 years, and seeing their bond grow, makes you realize just how special animals are in our lives.
But with time, Loki’s body began to fail him, after 12 years, his brown patch slowly turning white, body getting stiffer with the cold weather. We relocated to Florida, hoping the warmer weather, not so cold winters would help him in his elder years. We were granted another year with our sweet boy. In his last days, it became hard for him to stand or walk, and we knew our time was coming to an end. Our boy had been such a stable part of our family, the one we could vent to and eat snack cakes with, without judgement. A true companion, he was great at keeping secrets, unless it’s where you hid the snack cakes.
Our sweet Loki will be missed dearly and remembered fondly. He will forever be apart of our family and an advocate for his breed.
