This morning Lt. Edgardo Grajales of Chaires-Capitola Fire & Rescue and member of the Florida State Guard started his journey through Lake Jackson’s territory. He was accompanied by Chief Joseph P Simmons and Kyle A Pennock of LJVFD.

In his third year of towing the line, he is bringing awareness to Leon County's 6 volunteer fire departments and the issue that ZERO Florida volunteer firefighters are covered by Florida Statute § 112.1816 ("The Cancer" Bill).

Tomorrow morning he will continue his journey through Lake Jackson heading south on CCNW until he makes it into Lake Talquin Volunteer Fire Department territory.

Today, we recognize the volunteer firefighters who give their time, energy and heart to serve their communities. These dedicated men and women train hard, respond at all hours and often leave work, family and everyday life behind when the call comes in.

We are especially grateful for the volunteer firefighters who regularly work alongside TFD, providing valuable support and assistance when our community needs it most. Thank you to volunteer firefighters here at home and across the country for your service, sacrifice and commitment.

On Saturday June 20th 2026, We had the privilege to train alongside three of the other five Leon County volunteer fire departments. Bradfordville Fire & Rescue, Chaires-Capitola Fire & Rescue and Miccosukee Fire Rescue. The VFDs are developing a Tender Strike Team (in some areas known as a Tanker Task Force) to better serve our neighbors throughout the county.
We thank Roberts Elementary for allowing us to use the school grounds, and members of Leon County EMS and City of Tallahassee Fire Department for dropping by and providing feedback. We also thank the our firefighters/ First Responders for their dedication to service and professionalism.
