Our childhoods shape us, and often help inspire our careers and how we navigate them. We love this story of how Walton County Sheriff's Office, Florida Sergeant Oscar D’Lassalas is using the language and childhood lessons of his grandmother to better serve the residents he helps protect. 👏

A Walton County Sheriff’s Office sergeant is drawing on his bilingual upbringing to connect with the Hispanic community.

Update: The 1973 murders of sisters Maggie and Mary Jenkins, featured on the Cold Case Florida podcast in 2025, are solved.

On a special episode, investigators walk through the work that closed this case after 53 years. Preserved evidence, modern forensic testing, and genetic genealogy helped the Monroe County Sheriff's Office and the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) identify the killer as David Allen Snyder.

Thank you to the investigators who stayed with this case and brought answers to the Jenkins family. Hear the full update wherever you get your podcasts or at flsheriffs.org/coldcase.

Amendment 3 guts the largest funding source for public safety in Florida. Fewer deputies, longer waits for an ambulance, slower 911. Amendment 3 is too good to be true.
