I had an incredible finish to my summer Public Safety Cycling teaching!

I had a 5th NEMRT, North East Multi-Regional Training, Inc. MTU #3 International Police Mountain Bike Association (IPMBA) class with the Cook County Sheriff's Office (Official) at Moraine Valley Community College Main Campus.

Sheriff Dart has put a lot of effort into developing the CCSPD Bike Patrol Team and I was fortunate to train 94 officers in 5 classes this summer. Some were new to bike patrol and got e-bike certified in the 32-hour course. Other officers were previous students of mine and just needed the e-bike training module because the department has 8 Trek e-bikes and has ordered 5 Volcanic Bikes to add to the fleet!

They have a dedicated van and trailer (check out the picture below!) and have saved over $100,000 by performing their own bike maintenance and tune ups with officers who attended the Volcanic Bike Maintenance Course.

I’m proud to work with the CCSPD leadership and IPMBA instructors who are former students as they responsibly and efficiently continue developing their crime fighting and community engaging bike unit.

I had a fun time with the Palatine Police Department teaching the 32-hour NEMRT, North East Multi-Regional Training, Inc. MTU #3 International Police Mountain Bike Association (IPMBA) e-bike class. It was great meeting Matt from Samcycle Electric Bikes where the department is getting their Himiway e-bikes. This was my 11th 32-hour Public Safety Cyclist class of the summer!

Sanford Police Officer David Randt’s bike patrol takes him through downtown, parks and trails, where he can reach places a patrol car can’t and stop to talk with the people he serves. He even rewards kids he spots wearing their helmets.

The article also highlights the training behind the ride, with insight from IPMBA instructor and board executive Thomas Zermeno. Great to see public safety cycling at work in Sanford!

I just finished 2 International Police Mountain Bike Association (IPMBA) classes at College of DuPage Homeland Security Training Institute: a 32-hour Police Cyclist mixed conventional and e-bike, and an 8-hour e-Bike transition course. Luckily the rainy weather held off enough to get everyone through without getting too soaked! We mixed the schedule up so much, I forgot to get class photos!

Another fun class at the Skokie Police Department with a NEMRT, North East Multi-Regional Training, Inc. MTU #3 International Police Mountain Bike Association (IPMBA) conventional and e-bike Police Cyclist Course. Teaching with Jesse Wienski is always a treat - especially when he takes the role of Lead Instructor! 17 students from several departments all passed the on-bike skills and written test requirements of the class. More cops on bikes is always a good thing!
