It Takes a Community to Keep Our Kids Safe

Attention Parents, Guardians, and Community Members!

Help us keep our neighborhoods safe by talking with children and teens about the laws and best safety practices for bicycles, scooters, e-bikes, and other electric-assisted devices.

One of the most common violations we encounter is multiple riders on a single device. The law is simple: One device = One rider. Carrying passengers is not only illegal in most cases, but it is also unsafe and often goes against the manufacturer's safety recommendations.

Please remember to also "Walk Your Wheels" in the downtown too!

We also cannot stress enough the importance of wearing a helmet
every time you ride. A helmet is one of the simplest and most effective ways to prevent serious injuries.

Safety starts with awareness, and it takes all of us—parents, schools, neighbors, and riders—to create a safer community for everyone.

What a callback! I got to teach former Cook County Sheriff Police Cyclist students get familiar with their new e-bikes. We got a flat and they knew how to patch it and get back on the road. It was great seeing past training at work!

I finished the week with a 1-day e-bike class with Tri River Police Training Region hosting at the Joliet Junior College Agriculture Center with officers from Joliet Police Dept, Illinois Department of Natural Resources, Plainfield Police Department, and LaGrange Police. In the excitement of the day, I forgot to take a class photo!🤷‍♂️

I started the week off right with 10 great students - and now International Police Mountain Bike Association (IPMBA) trained police cyclists. Thanks to Homeland Security Training Institute for hosting the class and continuing to employ me to teach the course!
