Most times when we talk about the future for our children we envision their careers, will they become parents, where they may live, how they may behave or will they make us proud.

But how often have we just stopped to think about them being happy?

None of those other things matter if they aren’t happy. And we don’t mean just smile on their faces.

We’re talking about deep down in your core happiness - satisfaction with life.

This pic was from our baby shower in 2017, superhero theme if you can’t tell 😉

It had been a long scary pregnancy because Eli had almost come before 24 weeks and we spent the rest of the time just trying to keep him in “long enough”

Although we were nervous about traveling over an hour away from home just weeks before our “due date”, this day was a day we needed.

A day we were surrounded by family & love where we were able to show up and just be present & celebrate our Future Black Man

We are ever grateful for the F A M I L Y we come from, we created and we are becoming.

Two weeks ago I caught up with about her experiences raising these two future black men, particularly her response to the question about a pivotal moment in her parenting journey.⁠

We talked about some differences in how we were brought up, her children's experiences in education & some of the racism/micro-aggressions they have faced.⁠
⁠
But this statement she shared made by her little about the Riot on Capitol Hill stuck out to us the most: ⁠
"Why is it that what they're doing is called "good" but when we don't do any of that we're "bad"?"⁠
⁠
