Limited bandwidth, constrained power, extreme temperatures, vibration, dust, and legacy OT connections can make enterprise technologies impractical at the edge. Flexibility is not a rejection of standards, but the ability to apply them without undermining operations.

For government agencies, defense organizations and commercial customers, this often means incorporating AI into a zero-trust architecture rather than creating a separate security exception. That includes identity and access management, audit trails, data-level protections, human oversight at critical decision points and a reliable means of suspending autonomous actions when needed.
