This evening, I had the pleasure of celebrating my friend Lori's birthday with an exceptional selection of wines, beginning with Laurent Perrier Grand Siecle No 26, Georges Laval Champagne 1er Cru Brut Nature Cumieres NV, 2016 Domaine Leflaive Clavoillon, 2015 Promontory Napa Valley Bordeaux Blend, 2013 Hundred Acre Deep Time Kayli Morgan Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon, and wrapping up with Dynamis Estate Wines Pommeau apple dessert wine.

Cheers to wonderful friends, exquisite cuisine, and outstanding wine! ❤️🍾🥂

Last weekend, I had the pleasure of enjoying a bottle of Azelia Barolo Riserva Bricco Voghera from the highly acclaimed 2016 vintage. This wine was deeply flavorful and intense, offering notes of dark fruit, earthy and savory hints, and a wonderfully smooth finish.
It was truly a show stopper!

Tonight's meal was slow cooked Dutch Oven pot roast with carrots, parsnips, and onions, accompanied by sautéed baby bella mushrooms and mashed potatoes, all served with pan sauce. This was paired with my very last bottle of 2018 Antler Hill Cabernet Sauvignon from my visit to the Biltmore tasting room 5 years ago. The fragrant and velvety deep black fruit notes, along with lovely oak undertones of to***co, leather, caramel, and baking spices, create a perfect pairing with the savory richness of my braised pot roast and cut through the creamy texture of my mashed potatoes.
While preparing the meal, I enjoyed a chilled glass of 2024 L'Aurage Bordeaux Blanc. This palate opener was a lovely balance of fresh stone fruit and citrus, complemented by richer undertones of minerality and vanilla.

Tonight, I prepared a Bolognese sauce with ground beef and Italian sausage. I added mini bell peppers, chopped onions, garlic, red pepper flakes, and broccolini to the sauce, which I served over gluten-free pasta. If you have a gluten allergy or sensitivity, I highly recommend Taste Republic fresh linguine. It's my favorite gluten-free brand I've tried so far, with Jovial being a close second. You can find it in the refrigerated section at Whole Foods. While cooking, I savored a chilled glass of White Burgundy, and for dinner, I paired the meal with a delightful Brunello.The Burgundy was a real show stopper especially for the price. I would give it a 95! Although the Brunello was good and complemented our meal perfectly, it wasn't particularly noteworthy. I'd give it an 84, meaning it was drinkable but not something I'd buy again.

It was a lovely evening spent getting to know some new people and, of course, enjoying a selection of Cogno wines from the Piedmont region of Italy. My personal favorite of the night was the 2020 Barolo Cascina Nuova; I found it to be exceptionally delicious, especially when paired with tender, unxious short ribs served over polenta.

Amazing Ehlers Estate members dinner and wine pairing with winemaker, Adam Casto at the Rooster & the Till! Favorite of the night, was the 2021 "1886" but also loved the new 2024 Sylviane Estate Blanc and the 2023 "1886"!
