Creating an enriching and beautiful environment for birds is one of my FAVORITE things to do. Natural perching is a renewable resource, and it doesn’t cost anything! I look for pieces that are unique, have lots of bark (texture is good for foot health), and are not rotting and haven’t been on the ground for too long.
Be sure to look out for:
- plants that have been treated with chemicals
- bug infestations
- plant species that are NOT bird safe

Meet Petey 💚 the blue fronted Amazon
He’s very old, is missing a wing, and is partially blind. Despite all of that, he is such a darling bird! Petey and his other flock members (Lily the Quaker parrot and Oscar the orange wing) are boarding with me for a long stay.
Older birds deserve the same attention as the others! They can learn new things and benefit from enrichment, just with some modifications. Nothing makes me happier that seeing a geriatric parrot’s feathers shine…and Petey is shining today!✨🤩✨

Meet Kesha! This adorable Goffin cockatoo is boarding with us for a month while her owner’s house undergoes renovations.
New favorite enrichment includes: papaya browse and fern clippings. Also loves: head scratches and grapes 🤍

I love a good macaw headshot 🤩This handsome guy worked on hands off kennel training during his time with me. This was super helpful when it came time for him to go home! Training a voluntary kennel behavior is very important and useful. I encourage all my clients to train and practice kenneling on a regular basis. It allows the birds to easily go in and out of the kennel, without force or stress. Although it’s not a glamorous behavior, it sure does make traveling a whole lot easier 😉

We welcomed two new *permanent* flock members this week 👏👏👏
They are both older birds with some unique characteristics (that we love!) The Mexican red head is missing an eye, and the blue front is missing some toes. Fortunately, they are both capable of most things that any normal Amazon can do! I’m looking forward to working with them and watching them thrive together in their new environment 💚
