In a recent rezoning case the conversation started about what is appropriate for retail spaces near or in neighborhoods. This article examines the rise and fall and hopefully an eventual come back of the “corner store.” These places make aging in place possible as well as promotes a sense of community.

At one time, corner stores were vital pillars of urban neighborhoods. Yet, in many cities, the classic corner store has all but disappeared.

I did a thing! A few months ago I created an urban planning coloring book as a part of my sponsorship of the CALF Children's Art + Literacy Festival in Storybook Capital of America. In my recent trip back to Abilene I was able to snag a few copies for myself, but if you want one, you can pick them up with your CALF materials and maybe get an extra copy if they have any left! ❤️
