From piano tuning to installing a player system, Magnum Opus Piano Works has it covered. My name is Douglas Laing. I recently moved from the Portland, Oregon area to the Tampa Bay area. I have been tuning harpsichords for 30 years. Somewhere in that time fortepianos crept into the picture and then after a year of training and apprenticing I have taken on modern pianos. I have a bachelor's degree i

n music history from the University of Michigan. I followed this with studies in viola da gamba and harpsichord performance at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis, le Centre de Musique Ancienne in Geneva, Switzerland, and Indiana University. Because of my background in early music, I approach the piano from a historical perspective. This opens the door to many temperaments other than equal temperament.

OMG!! It is FINISHED!!! I've been working on this beautiful Loud and Brothers square piano from 1831 for over 2 years. I rehinged the hammers and the under levers, replaced leather parts where necessary, replaced all the corroded lead and fixed all the split keys, restrung with Rose Wire and beautiful open-wound bass strings from Cesar Hernandez, and did 1,015 other things. Oh and notice the pedal leg in the middle. Don Minnerly made an amazing copy of the legs and i made the pedal. I hope to be brave and record a snippet tonight.

This pretty Kranich & Bach was in a house where there was a fire. Corrosive chemicals from such an event can cause strings to break and the plate to corrode from the underside. It's getting cleaned up; plate pulled, washed, painted and sealed; new pinblock, and restrung.
