π₯ Fire and Smoke Update π₯
We have a few updates for you this afternoon. Let's start off with all the smoke you're experiencing!
β’ Smoke from fires around the continent (e.g. Pacific Northwest, Canada, etc.) began to enter New Mexico yesterday. No matter where the smoke came from, take measures to protect your health. The Fire and Smoke Map shows air quality data from area sensors with recommended actions. Go to https://fire.airnow.gov.
β’ The Yeso Fire was fully contained on Sunday. Our fire crews used roads to contain the fire at 650 acres for safety and for fire to play its natural role in the ecosystem. Crews remain on scene. Check out our explainer about how and why we managed the fire this way: https://www.fs.usda.gov/detail/carson/fire/?cid=fseprd1188972.
β’ The Mestenas Canyon Fire (pictured) near Dulce, N.M., continues to slowly grow within planned containment lines. It is now 628 acres with 30% containment. Learn more at InciWeb: https://inciweb.wildfire.gov/incident-information/nmcaf-mestenas-canyon-fire.
