Stanford joined colleagues from across the country for a discussion on the future of the American arts and culture sector that challenged us to move beyond diagnosis and toward action. I’m grateful for dialogue rooted in candor, humility, and shared imagination.

We had an incredible time facilitating the strategic planning retreat for Edmonds Center for the Arts this week. It was inspiring to work alongside such thoughtful board and staff members committed to deepening ECA’s community impact, expanding access, and shaping a bold vision for the future of the arts in the North Puget Sound region. Thank you for your trust and collaboration—we’re excited for what’s ahead!

This past weekend, Goldsmith Strategies teamed up with Drs. Thomas Wolf and Dennie Wolf of WolfBrown and gathered an extraordinary group of arts leaders from across the country hosted by Harvard’s Office for the Arts. Over two days of deep reflection, bold conversation, and mutual support, we explored what it means to lead with purpose, resilience, and imagination in times of disruption. Grateful for the insight, honesty, and courage each participant brought to the circle—and inspired by what’s possible when visionary leaders come together to shape a more equitable future for the arts.

"I come from a nonprofit cultural background and my work is often to steward the creative visions of others. Usually working in the back seat with scarce resources and a small team, I have learned the importance of a healthy feedback loop of giving and graciously accepting gratitude with collaborators at all levels. Gratitude can sustain individuals and propel teams to new places. I am eager to learn how to spread the spirit of gratitude in all elements of my work, including our supporters and the network I serve. Through LeadLab, I hope to gain the skills to bring my best self into the hard and layered work of strategic planning so that on the other side I can bring the values of gratitude and empathy into not just my work, but the wider practice of the community I serve."

"Gratitude is about reflecting on what you have; what your strengths are versus what you're lacking. And then...positively expressing that. This helps provide clarity and transparency in the workplace. We're more productive and happy when we aren't coming from a place of scarcity.

Personally, I love the surprise gratitude - when someone shares something I wasn't expecting. Recently, an employee shared that she appreciated that I trust her to run her business. This is a validation of how I WANT to lead - so I love that."

Introducing LeadLab - a brand new summit on the art and impact of gratitude. Designed for , LeadLab leverages cross-sector and intergenerational peer exchange, cultivates actionable solutions, and fosters experiential learning.

Why ?

Too often, workplaces approach gratitude superficially. A generic gesture on recruitment brochures, or a canned sentiment in culture statements. But hollow gestures like these can feel forced. Emotionally intelligent workplaces understand that gratitude is the conscious recognition of how outside forces and the efforts of others contribute to social goodness. Gratitude reduces conflicts. It decreases the number of employee sick days. And it leads to higher job satisfaction through more collaboration between coworkers, resulting in an environment wired for innovation.

LeadLab offers a transformative approach, by exploring gratitude as a powerful tool for authentic, effective, and sustainable workplace integration through a unique framework–

→ → Authentic Expression → Emotion in the Workplace → Sustainable Change

Participants will leave with an action plan leveraging gratitude to advance a real professional challenge, utilizing follow-up connections with and the cohort for support, feedback, and accountability throughout the year.

The Summit is April 26-27. Learn more and apply by the priority deadline 2/21: https://www.leadlabsummit.com/

"Through education, curation, and economic development, we work to continue Philadelphia's vibrant history as a capital of craft - a place where craft is learned, created, seen, purchased, collected and shared." This is 's vision.

Yesterday had the pleasure of leading the organization's board retreat. The day has yielded reflection on the power of dreaming and imagining - what would your organization want to achieve if resources, capacity, and existing structures had no limits? What new insights and breakthroughs arise when routines are disrupted? Stepping back to look at values and the big picture is so important to inform the priorities of programs and activities.

CraftNOW unites leading institutions and artists in celebration of Philadelphia's role as an incubator for arts based in wood, clay, fiber, metal, and glass. Their current programs include Tools of the Trades, a hybrid conference connecting artisans to business resources, CraftBUILD, which unites developers with local makers, and CraftNOW Create, offering craft workshops in summer camps across the city, among others.
