Taylor Animal Shelter got a new EMC, and they made a really smart choice by going with Daktronics — the same system used throughout the City of Taylor. That means all of the city’s signs can communicate together, share messages, and work as one network. Smart planning now makes everything easier down the road.

But the sign wasn’t actually my favorite part of being out there.

While our crew was working, there was a gentleman volunteering at the shelter, walking the dogs. And when I say it was HOT — the heat index was around 104 degrees. He just kept coming out with one dog after another, walking each one with the biggest smile on his face.

I finally talked to him, and what he said stuck with me. He basically said the animals do just as much for him as he does for them. It’s a reciprocation of emotions — they need him, and in his own way, he needs them too.

There was something really beautiful about watching that.

So yes, we’re proud to have completed another Daktronics EMC for the City of Taylor, but I also want to give some love to the Taylor Animal Shelter and the people who give their time there. They need volunteers, and after seeing it firsthand, I can tell you those animals aren’t the only ones who get something out of it.

Sometimes helping something else turns around and helps you right back. ❤️

Happy Thursday!

Yesterday was HOT, and apparently it was hot enough that unloading the truck became a problem for Future Us. 😂 Came in this morning ready to load everybody up for another workday and… surprise! Last night’s workday is still in there.

Honestly, we get it. Our crews work hard, and after spending the day out in that heat, sometimes you’re just DONE.

It’s going to be another hot one today, so plenty of water, plenty of breaks, get in the AC when you need to, and watch out for each other. No sign, install, or deadline is more important than our people.

And every once in a while, the boss lady gets her hands dirty too — prepping plans, loading trucks, and getting everybody ready to roll.

Be good to your crew. Take care of your people. They’re the ones who make it all happen.

Now let’s unload this truck… so we can load it right back up again. 😂

There’s a whole lot more to running a sign shop than what you see when the finished sign goes up!

Behind the scenes, our production team works a little like an assembly line — printing, laminating, cutting, mounting, trimming and checking every detail. One project can pass through several sets of hands before it ever heads out the door.

And yes, even that giant color chart on the wall matters! When your brand has a specific color, we’re going to get that color right — and when you’re choosing something new, we’ll help you find exactly what you want.

We’ve got daughters, moms, grandmas, aunties, sisters and friends working side by side around here, so there’s definitely plenty of feminine energy mixed into our production department. That also means if you stop by the shop, there’s a pretty good chance you’re leaving with your signs, a snack, a smile and possibly even a hug. ❤️

A lot of hands, a lot of heart and a whole lot of teamwork go into what we do at MI Custom Signs.

There’s a whole lot that happens before you ever see the pretty sign.

This week in Monroe, Michigan, our new guy got introduced to the digging side of the sign business — and there’s definitely a little science to it. Proper depth, setting the steel, getting everything level, and then giving that concrete time to cure before we put the weight of the new sign on it. The little steps matter when you want it done right.

This one was for a church, so we may have had a little extra help from above. 🙏

Three hours allotted. Done, cleaned up and rolling out in 1½ hours — with the new guy learning along the way.

Always a good day when we get to help out our friends at Fish & Loaves Community Food Pantry in Taylor!

Today’s install was a memorial recognition display honoring those who have shared their time and talents helping neighbors in need.

Fish & Loaves has been serving our Downriver communities since 2008 from their home on Northline Road in Taylor, with one simple mission: “Ensuring No One Goes Hungry.” We’re always proud to play a small part in the work they do for our community.
