A busy day yesterday assembling furniture in Huntsville here in Utah (some 20 minutes east of Ogden). A platform bed, 2 red Adirondack chairs, a perplexing Pilates contraption, a standing desk, and a garden wagon.
Not pictured, a large, floating TV cabinet with bi-fold doors. It anchors to the wall and closes to conceal a large TV also anchored to the wall so that it only carries the weight of the cabinet itself.
Also not pictured, I finished anchoring a Murphy bed frame to the wall in a spare bedroom.
10.5 hours counts as a long day, right?

A few years ago, I took a 14-year old assistant on a job to assemble a dresser from some random overseas manufacturer. We hit a wall assembling one section which, after several frustrating minutes, I just couldn't figure out.

As I paused to scratch my head, my assistant asked, "So, do we just tell her (the client) we can't do it?" A legitimate question, I suppose. I replied, "Oh, no! WE'RE the ones people call when they can't figure things out."

This doesn't make me unique, but it's an interesting part of being a small, small business owner. You have your bag of tools, often literally, but you bear the responsibility to solve unique problems you encounter both as a service to your clients and in service to your brand and reputation.

We solved the problem with the dresser, and that responsibility felt like less of a burden and more of a perk I gladly provided to my client.
