Let's talk Murphy beds.

In my experience, a Murphy bed is a bed that hinges at the head and folds up into a cabinet. They MUST be anchored to the wall, typically with lag bolts, because the weight of the bed and the tension created when you fold it down would cause it to fall otherwise.

I don't love assembling and installing them, but I admit the finished product looks nice and is a great space saver.

This week I was hired to assemble what I learned was a different type of Murphy bed, as identified by the manufacturer. This consists of nesting boxes, which collapse to appear like a drawer, and a platform that folds up to form the front of a cabinet.

This was MUCH easier to assemble and didn't require anchoring to function. It's also a space saver and has, due to its design, built-in storage. I quite like this variation of Murphy bed.
