NatureFlex™ was designed with end-of-life in mind, but composting is only part of the story.

🌱 NatureFlex™ films are designed for composting and anaerobic digestion, with certified options for industrial and home composting. But Futamura is also exploring additional end-of-life pathways, including enzymatic, chemical and thermochemical recycling technologies.

♻️ Advanced recycling: Futamura is also testing technologies such as enzymatic, chemical and thermochemical recycling. These processes work differently from standard mechanical recycling and are being explored as additional ways to recover value from the material.

🔬 In recent enzymatic trials, uncoated NatureFlex™ degraded within 1 day, while coated film degraded within 2 days under the tested conditions. Futamura has also tested NatureFlex™ in pyrolysis systems, with results showing it can be included in certain feedstocks without negatively affecting the process.

⚡ Energy recovery: Where composting or recycling infrastructure is limited, NatureFlex™ can also be used in modern energy recovery facilities.

The big idea is simple: there may be more than one way forward for packaging at the end of its useful life. 🌎
