Compostable packaging needs somewhere to go. 🌱 New research from the Sustainable Packaging Coalition found that 18.1% of the sampled U.S. population has access to curbside or drop-off composting programs that accept both food waste and some forms of compostable packaging. Overall composting access also increased from 27% in 2020 to 35.9% in 2025, showing that infrastructure is continuing to grow. (Sustainable Packaging Coalition, 2025)

California's proposed legislation that could have eliminated certified compostable packaging as an option has been stopped.

Certified compostable packaging remains a tool that helps keep food scraps out of landfills and supports a more circular economy in California.
