When quarries have no more aggregate to mine, reclamation begins so that the quarry can be restored for the benefit of the public and the environment, with concurrent reclamation to occur along the way. Environmental stewardship is designated as a major focus area of the United States Department of Transportation (DOT) strategic plan. According to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), environmental stewardship is the responsibility for environmental quality shared by all those whose actions affect the environment. The Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) supports and promotes the use of recycled highway materials in pavement construction in an effort to preserve the natural environment, reduce waste, and provide a cost-effective material for constructing highways. In fact, the primary objective is to encourage the use of recycled materials in the construction of highways to the maximum economical and practical extent possible with equal or improved performance. As part of the FHWA recycled materials policy, the FHWA actively promotes asphalt pavement recycling and technology.

In the past, this rubble was disposed of in landfills, but with more attention being paid to environmental concerns, concrete recycling allows reuse of the rubble while also keeping construction costs down. Our quarry location in accepts reclamation fill dirt, asphalt millings and broken asphalt chunks which we recycle into new asphalt products, and concrete and block hard construction debris which we recycle into road base material. Recycling of construction materials reduces the disposal of usable products in landfills and helps to preserve natural resources.

We turn it into a great recycled product. 2a crushed concrete and 3a crushed concrete are a great alternative to stone and serve as valuable road base material and landscape fill among other uses. Recycled crushed red brick gravel can be used as a vibrant groundcover, in pathways, or anywhere that your landscape needs a splash of color. Recycling concrete, asphalt, bricks, and other construction debris saves thousands of acre-feet of landfill space each year. Recycling is cheaper and more ecological than trucking rubble to a landfill. Crushed rubble can be used for road gravel, revetments, retaining walls, landscaping gravel, or raw material for new concrete. Large pieces can be used as bricks or slabs, or incorporated with new concrete into structures, a material called urbanite.
