At 6:00 AM on Sunday, August 3rd, HTS supported the opening of the Intermountain Health Lutheran Hospital.

Our Clinical Director, Emily Downs, shared her insight on the Move. "Success is the only word I would use when I think of this project. It comes down to teamwork and collaboration."

Love is in the air this Valentine's Day, and so is the excitement surrounding Intermountain Health's Lutheran Medical Center Replacement Hospital here in Wheatridge, CO. Our HTS, An HBS Company team is busy on site this week with facility tours, activation activities, move planning, and our first rounds of scenario writing as we ramp up our preparation for Day in the Life and Patient Move.

Scenario Writing is a hands-on exercise that allows the hospital units and ancillary departments, participating in Day in the Life, to create realistic scenarios based on their future state workflows. These outlined, true-to-life discourses will be utilized during each of the Day in the Life events to allow participants to practice their newly established processes. Scenarios encompass both day-to-day hospital operations along with unexpected situations that hospital staff may face after GoLive. This week, HTS is meeting with 10 departments along with a host of support departments to develop these scripts. These scripts will be fine-tuned and vetted over the coming months with each department to ensure the accuracy of testing.

This ongoing preparation, leading to our Day in the Life events this spring and summer, is just one reason why HTS loves being a part of bringing hospitals and medical buildings to life.

Over the last several months, Bridget Graham, Dawn Serrilli, and Luis Bonilla have been busy assisting the University of Maryland Medical System Upper Chesapeake plan for the activation and move into their new facilities.

Our approach to move planning focuses on a patient-safe and controlled hospital evacuation. The process of developing a plan not only outlines the logistics that support the patient’s safety, but our team engages with all members of support and ancillary departments within the organization to define what modified operational plans will be in place to support the inpatient units that are moving.

With less than a month left to go, the team performed their final mock move with the use of a Medical Ambulance Bus, provided by Howard County Department of Fire and Rescue Services. During a mock move, our team works with the client and EMS crews to walk through each step in our patient move logistics plan to validate the approach, train the teams, and ensure all are comfortable with the plan before moving any patients.

We are excited about the opening of their new facility and look forward to a successful move day!

This week, our team is conducting the first round of workflow sessions with the RWJBarnabas Health and Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey - CINJ teams, focusing on foundational topics. In our first two workflow sessions, we are diving into the Patient's Journey throughout the facility, starting with the pre-arrival process. These foundational workflows are critical to review and establish early because of their downstream impact on clinical and support workflows. By establishing processes for how patients and visitors will access and traverse the building, interact with staff, or utilize technology, we can develop a framework that not only enhances the patient experience but also streamlines operations for staff.

We were joined by over 100 participants who, quite literally, brought their expertise to the table. The teams collaborated to develop effective workflows that will create a seamless patient experience as they navigate through the Jack and Sheryl Morris Cancer Center. We look forward to our continued collaboration with the RWJBH CINJ teams as we continue our efforts to bring The Jack and Sheryl Morris Cancer Center to life.

Another successful Workflow session is in the books for our HTS, An HBS Company team. Last week, Emily Downs, Kim King, and Dawn Serrilli were onsite with UCI Health. The teams conducted their Patient Journey Workflow for the UCI Health Chao Family Comprehensive Cancer Center and Ambulatory Care building. This work will be instrumental in implementing efficient operational plans for the Center's Go Live in the early summer of 2024. HTS will remain engaged in operational planning for the hospital and cancer services, and we are excited to continue partnering and planning with the wonderful UCI team.

In the magic of bringing buildings to life, our team was able to experience a little Disney magic while onsite in Irvine. We are not only thankful for the memories we create with our clients but also for the ones we share with our colleagues.

November 5, 2022, was a momentous day for The MetroHealth System as they opened their doors to the new Glick Center. Over the course of 8 hours, 270 patients were moved into the Glick Center by the dedicated Metro staff with the guidance of HTS, An HBS Company. The excitement and drive of the Move teams could be felt throughout the day, making November 5th one for the books.

Bridget Graham and Tannya Parker were sincerely grateful to have been a part of the truly amazing MetroHealth team as they transitioned into their new home. Congratulations MetroHealth on a year of transformation for your patients and staff and all the years to come!

After an assessment, the next big project milestone for transition planning is kicking off our transition committees. To prepare for a successful committee kick-off, key decisions for the new facility have to be made, teams need to be established, and the vision for the building should be shared with all involved. Typically lasting 12 months, we work with the committees on critical tasks that require completion prior to the project's go-live. By working one-on-one with these project groups, we are able to provide vetted input that leaves no stone unturned, allowing the project team to be fully prepared for their opening day.

We had the pleasure of kicking off these committees onsite with RWJBarnabas Health this week. Over the next year, these focus groups will collaborate to complete these key project tasks. We are so proud of all the work they have completed to get them to where they are today, and we look forward to all the accomplishments we anticipate for them over the coming months.

"Before anything else, preparation is the key to success." -- Alexander Graham Bell

Kim King, Emily Downs, and Dawn Serrilli were back onsite with the fabulous Driscoll Children's Hospital team this month to start Day in the Life planning, specifically writing the departmental scenarios that will be used during the Day in the Life events. These scenarios are created and designed by the client to test important and high-risk workflows in their new space. Engaging staff in scenario writing gives them the hands-on opportunity to be an integral part of the changes that come with moving into a new facility. This preparation ensures that all upcoming events will be a success for all involved.

We completed our final Day in the Life event in New York City on September 21st. It is always bittersweet when our work comes to a close for our projects. The relationships we have built with our clients are cherished, and the workflows we have developed alongside our clients live on as the facility opens and serves the community. Having a third simulation event provides the opportunity to validate and finalize the facility-specific workflows, and ensure the building and staff are ready for day one of patient care.

We are honored to have been a part of bringing this behavioral health center to life, giving the people of New York a fantastic resource for mental health services.
