SAE Aero Design at ASU

SAE Aero Design at ASU Welcome to the official SAE @ ASU Aero Team page! Get hands-on learning in fabrication and testing of the airplane and its sub-systems.

We are a professional organization that competes in an international design/build/fly competition with the focus of preparing students to work in industry through real engineering experiences. You will be exposed to engineering fundamentals in aerodynamics, structural analysis, aircraft design and program management. Strengthen your communication and organization skills through report writing, des

ign documentation as well as preparing and presenting major design reviews. Due to the complexity of aircraft design, you will collaborate with a multi-disciplinary team that ranges from freshman to graduate student engineers. Your experience with the SAE ASU Aero Team will depend on your dedication to learning and contribution to the design and fabrication of the aircraft. Our competition is organized by SAE International and is split into two competitions: SAE Aero Design West and SAE Aero Design East. There is a limit of 75 teams in each competition with three separate classes: Micro, Regular and Advance Class. Each class has their own unique system requirements with the Advance Class being the least restrictive. The SAE ASU Aero team will be competing in the SAE Aero Design West competition in the Advance Class. Our mission is to design a light-weight aircraft that carries a heavy payload and drops a humanitarian package onto a target from at least 100 feet using a first-person view system. The competition also requires submission of a 30-page design report and a 10-minute presentation to professional engineers for a score.
