πŸ”₯ Swipe to compare Before & After repair of this fabulous brass Argand desk lamp - Invented in 1780, the Argand oil lamp was designed to allow air to pass through and around a sleeve shaped wick and up through a cylindrical chimney, for a much steadier flame.

A fantastic portrait provided by the descendants of Enrico Liva - see our previous post for his plaster study that came through the Studio for repair. Liva was 10th of 11 children, and he and five of his brothers followed in the footsteps of their sculptor father. He emigrated to the United states from Italy at 15, and by 16 had entered the Journeymen Stone Cutters’ Association. In his early 20s he found his way to the stone belt, and began work for the Ingalls Stone Company in Bedford, IN, where he would spend the rest of his career, as a designer, architect, and head of stone carving. Examples of his work can be found up and down the country, including the Chrysler Building in NY, the Gettysburg Address panels at the Lincoln Memorial, Duke University Chapel, and the Worcester Memorial Auditorium in MA.
