FALL IS UPON US ONCE AGAIN!
halloween came and went and we hope you all had a great time taking your families trick or treating.
THE TIME HAS COME!!
This is the time of the season that shows mother nature in all her splendor, colorful trees, fair weather at times, and the sun setting early. Just as the weather and temperature changes, so should your living enviroment. We at A.N.L.H have some tips for this time of the year, to keep you going through the coming winter when it comes to your safety and home!
1. Make sure to replace your smoke detectors batteries, if it has been over 6 months, we advice to replace them with new ones, check you Carbon Monoxide detectors, run a test of these atleast once a week to make sure they are in functioning condition.
2. Replace your Furnace filters
Although some filters can be cleaned, we highly recommend Replacing them altogether for the winter months
3. Have a Proffesional inspect your heating system, do not assume because it is in working condition today!?, it maybe fine come tomorrow, mechanicals are unpredictable, if you dont have a hvac service plan, we highly recommend for you to aquire one at this time, parts are always under warranty by them. Do not get stuck in the cold. Theyre predicting one of the coldests seasons this year.
Be prepared! DO NOT neglect your water heater, if you havent done any maintenance on it or if it has been more than 7 years we recommend a replacement
4. Inspect any fire places or wood burners before firing them up, this is a safety and hazard concern. Clean them now so that you can enjoy those nice evenings with the family around them
5. Caulk and seal any gaps around the exterior and interior of your home. Specially around Doors, Windows and foundation, use weather stripping around doors and windows for insulating against the cold.
6. Throughly inspect your roof, skylights, vents and access hatch, check for loose shingles, separation of build up or rubber roofing, flashing and any damaged ridge edge, check for curling, blistering, alligatoring and seams of flat roofing layers and soft spots that may need replacing
7. Clean and inspect all your gutters and down spots. Run a water test with a hose and seal any seams and corner joints from leaking. If there is too much damage!? Replace them as soon as possible, if you have a lots of trees around your home, Install mesh covers so that the falling leaves do not cause any plugging of your drain system
8. Winterize your outdoor faucets, hose bibs and irrigation system. Drain them all to prevent damage from freezing water.
9. Have a Fire extiinguisher in the following areas, kitchen, by fire place and wood burners, and have a pail of sand and an extra fire extinguisher in your boiler room or furnace room!
10 EGRESS IS VERY IMPORTANT!
remove any furniture or obstruction impeding you from evacuationg your home should an emergency Arise, SPECIALLY from hallways and bedroom doors. Have an escape plan!! BE PREPARED!
Have flashlights, candles, batteries and a radio in case of a power outage. Plan escape routes with your family SPECIALLY the children. Make sure they know what to do in case of an emergency and have a back up plan if the first one fails.
