Unplanned Partial Power Outage - Spearfish and Lyle Substation 12/12/24

Klickitat PUD is currently experiencing an unplanned partial power outage on the Spearfish and Lyle Substations. BPA reported an operation on their transmission line immediately preceding the outage. If you are experiencing partial power we recommend you turn off your breakers to prevent any damage to appliances and electronics.

The crew is performing line patrols to determine the cause of the partial power outage. Once the line patrols are complete, we will provide an estimated time of restoral based on their findings.

Update 2:00PM - BPA deenergized the line feeding the Spearfish and Lyle Substations until KPUD crews are on site and able to asses the issue.

Update 3:35PM - BPA tested the transmission line supplying power to the Spearfish and Lyle Substations. It was found that the transmission line was supplying partial power. At this time BPA and KPUD crews are patrolling the transmission line to identify a cause. Once a cause is identified we will provide an ETR.

Update 5:45PM - BPA has located a damaged piece of equipment on the Washington side of the Columbia River transmission line crossing. Due to the nature of the damage, we are working with BPA to change the transmission source to an alternate source with an estimated time of restoral of approximately 9:00PM which should then energize the Spearfish and Lyle Substations.

Update 9:00PM - BPA has started the switching process to change the source feeding the Spearfish and Lyle Substations. KPUD crews will then slowly re-energize one circuit at a time to avoid any cold-load pick-up issues that may arise. We are estimating to have all circuits re-energized by approximately 10:00PM.

‼️‼️Update 9:30PM - BPA has updated KPUD that all customers in the Goldendale, Klickitat, Wishram, Maryhill, Bickleton, Goodnoe and Darland areas will experience a 30-60 second power interruption during the transmission switching process. From there, KPUD crews will continue to work on re-energizing the circuits out of the Spearfish and Lyle Substations. ‼️‼️

Update 10:00PM - BPA and the KPUD crew have completed the switching process and ALL customers should be restored. If you are still without power, please contact KPUD.

Outage Update:
A power outage in Dallesport impacted one of our main tower sites at 9:40pm on February 15th. We aim to restore internet by 6AM tomorrow, if not sooner. Apologies for the inconvenience.

Hello all my favorite people! Does anyone out there perhaps have a snowmobile or some other something that you might be willing to loan or rent to me for a day?

We had a pretty good run with this storm - very few people had connectivity issues. Unfortunately, the melting phase causes more damage than the cold, and not nearly enough snow has melted for me to take my big ol' dually up the butte. I have some equipment that's acting funny up on Stacker Butte, and I'm probably going to have to go up there to fix it.

NETWORK STATUS UPDATE: Freezing rain is our kryptonite. :/

We're experiencing some widespread slowdowns as our wireless signals are destroyed by a hefty coating of kryptonite.... err... I mean ice. It's coating our backhauls and access points.

If you experience an outage or slow service, please still shoot us a text (458-588-0622), so we can investigate. We will do what we can, but it's very possible that we will be at the mercy of the weather.

UPDATE: Yup, it's the rain. Fortunately it's pretty rare for us to get rain this heavy. We're seeing connections come and go intermittently while the heavy rain is on-going. It's supposed to start easing up by around 4pm.

UNPLANNED OUTAGE ON GOING: as of approximately 2:30 this afternoon, we appear to be experiencing a significant power outage at one of our tower relay points. This is resulted in outages for all of our customers on the west side of the Dalles, Murray's edition, Browns Creek area and Cherry heights road. We are currently preparing to go out and see what's causing the power outage. Anyone have any ideas for likely suspects? Cough cough atmospheric river? cough cough
