Too many times we talk to a lot of executives who are unhappy in their present role, or feel stuck and are concerned their job is not taking their career where they want. Our response is generally, "you won't know if you are in a good or bad job until you get the next job!" In other words, when you walk through the next door in your career you will know whether the job you are currently in has been good, or bad for your career - based on the next role you take. Executive Assessment + Executive Search = Building the right organization for tomorrow

When an opening at the C-Suite occurs today, many companies today tend to fill key executive openings with a direct back-fill without thinking through the entire management team and how the entire Executive Leadership Team (ELT) fits together given the challenges companies face.

We all know that we are operating in rapidly changing corporate environments these days where the goals and objectives of companies can change every 12-18 months. When key jobs come open at the CXO/ELT level, best practice is to step back and make sure that the position(s) in question are not just changed out or replaced in kind. Proactive CEO’s tend to take the opportunity to think through the organization dynamics and executive team against what the new requirements for the company are.

At CKA, we have been brought in by many of our clients (CEO and Boards) to perform an executive assessment when senior level changes occur. Our charter has been to do a deep dive assessment of the strengths and weaknesses of the ELT. Given the changes to the team (and potentially to the business plan), we make sure that the team and new position is aligned properly to the ongoing goals and objectives of the company. This is becoming a best practice and it just makes good business sense. Then when CKA performs the executive search for the new leader, all constituents agree as to exactly what skills and competencies should be brought into the company.

Our experience is that executives actually enjoy our process and feedback, and organizations become stronger and more focused as a result.
