Getting ready for the next tree planting season. This year one of the planters, a retired high school teacher said, "tree planting saved my life." Planting a tree is just so fulfilling. Yes, it is a bit tiring, and you sleep well. We worked a reasonable amount of time not quite dawn to dusk, not even close to that.

Sitka spruce seedling planted in the shade area of a stump. Some of the final comments at the recently completed Forest Health in Oregon 2022: State of the State where really telling, that many of our Oregon Forest heath problems now have an abiotic base. Heat, drought, wildfire, wind, ice, not getting cold enough are all influencing the Oregon forest landscape. It's not going to be good enough to do things the way they used to be done. 2021 NRCS focus areas just published where financial help may be available in select areas of Tillamook, Clatsop, Columbia and Yamhill Counties to improve forest health and increase biological and structural forest diversity.

If that sounds like to much, forest management plans are part of the funding too, which makes the rest much more understandable.
