Our Mission

Writing Heights (formerly NCW) supports writers via education, resources, networking, collaboration, submission, and promotion. A professional organization based in Northern Colorado, we embrace new technology and modes of outreach and communication to support all writers, wherever they may be. We are committed to creating an inclusive and welcoming environment by fostering community

among our members, providing opportunities for writers to develop their unique voices, and celebrating accomplishments, big and small. Our Commitment to Diversity & Inclusion

Writing Heights is actively cultivating diversity, equity, and inclusion in our writing community. We are committed to putting resources and attention toward improving outreach and engagement for underrepresented voices and unique perspectives. We seek to empower our members to share their authentic selves through their writing and storytelling. "On a personal note, as a woman and an individual with a disability, it is my fervent desire to open doors and create opportunities for my fellow writers to follow their dreams and achieve their writing goals."
- Amy Rivers, Director

Join us this weekend for two incredible classes!

Cannibals and Compost: Recycling Old Work —
Have any old essays, poems, or short stories lying around, collecting dust? I sure do! Don’t throw them away. Cannibalize them! Compost them! Use them to create new hybrid or original work. Just like a garden, old scraps can nourish new growth. We’ll explore experimental forms like Collage Essays and Cento poems, as well as Micro- and Flash Fiction as containers for our transformed treasures.

What Editors Want: Looking Beyond the Submission Curtain at Literary Magazines —
Submitting your work to literary magazines is one way to connect with readers and propel your writing career forward, but many writers don’t understand what goes on behind the submission curtain. In this one-hour class we’ll discuss insights from literary magazine editors: what makes submissions shine, where your best chance at publication lies, and how to use the submission process to make your writing even stronger.

Friendly update: This month's classes will be a bit different in time to accommodate some pretty important happenings in our community. The morning class will still be at 10am, (if you're busy you can always register and we'll send you the class video) the afternoon class will be held at 3pm. Whatever you do out there this weekend, be safe, be kind, and be brave.
