Working in the heat is no joke, but heat illness is preventable!

Keep yourself and your crew safe with OSHA’s key controls:

💧 Hydrate Early & Often: Don’t wait until you’re thirsty. Drink water continuously throughout your shift.

🛑 Take Rest Breaks: Breaks are safety controls, not signs of weakness. Use shade or A/C to cool down and reset.

🌡️ Know Your Total Exposure: Heat + humidity + heavy PPE + workload = actual heat strain. Adjust your pace accordingly.

👷 Acclimatize: New or returning workers need time to build tolerance. Build up heat exposure gradually!

🚨 Know the Warning Signs: Dizziness, nausea, heavy sweating, or confusion? STOP, get cool, and notify someone immediately.

🦺 Work Smart: Never sacrifice required PPE for comfort—control the heat hazards with shade, ventilation, and rotation instead.

Day 3 of : Disposal Dos & Don’ts! ♻️

Recycling safely isn’t just good for the planet—it protects workers, equipment, and facilities from serious hazards like fires and chemical reactions.
Here are the quick rules every team needs to know:

DO:
✅ Know your facility’s stream – Don’t assume every recycling symbol belongs in standard recycling.
✅ Separate Li-ion batteries – Tape terminals and use dedicated collection points to prevent fires. 🔋
✅ Isolate hazardous items – Propane cylinders, aerosols, and paints require specialized handling. 🧯
✅ Keep original labels – Never mix chemicals or pour hazardous liquids down drains. 🧪
✅ Report hazards immediately – If an item is smoking, leaking, hot, or swollen, stop and report it! 🚨

DON’T:
❌ DON’T guess – When in doubt, keep it out!
❌ DON’T puncture, crush, or open questionable containers to make them fit.
❌ DON’T force questionable materials into balers, shredders, or compactors.

Recycling facilities hold hidden ignition sources that can quickly turn into major hazards! Keep your team safe with these key rules:

🔋 Spot Hidden Batteries: Lithium-ion batteries in electronics can ignite when crushed or damaged—never puncture or process them in normal streams!

⚠️ Watch for Pressurized Items: Aerosols, propane tanks, and chemicals can explode in compactors or shredders. Segregate suspect containers immediately.

🧹 Practice Good Housekeeping: Clear away cardboard, paper, and dust buildup. Combustible debris feeds fires and blocks emergency exits.

💥 Avoid Damage: Never puncture, crush, or bend batteries. Overheating or physical damage can lead to fires.

🚯 Keep Out of Trash: Never throw batteries in regular trash or recycling—compactors can crush them and spark fires.

⚡ Tape the Terminals: Prevent short circuits by taping over terminals with electrical tape or bagging batteries individually before storing.

🌡️ Store Cool: Keep batteries away from direct heat, sunlight, and flammable materials.

🚨 Watch for Red Flags: Swelling, hissing, smoke, or unusual heat are signs of a failing battery—isolate it safely and follow emergency procedures!
