The Georgia Advocacy Office is hosting a Symposium exploring Supported Decision-Making and Healthcare, this event will be Thursday Oct. 17th at the Decatur Courtyard by Marriott from 4-7pm.

The supported decision-making (SDM) process empowers people to obtain guidance and support without relinquishing their legal right to make personal choices about their lives. Using supported decision-making, a person with a disability selects a person or a team of trusted people to help understand, make, and communicate their decisions.

Went to the Olmstead at Twenty event in Atlanta today. This year marks the 20th anniversary of the Olmstead decision for peoples with disabilities. In Olmstead, the court held that unjustified institution isolation of people with disabilities is a form of unlawful discrimination under title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act. Stated that all people with disabilities have access to supports they need to live full and meaningful lives in the community.
