Why is fiber internet better than cell network providers? T-Mobile’s Home Internet runs over the same cellular network as their phones — which means that customers are among the first to see reduced speeds when a tower gets congested, and customers who use more than 1.2TB a month are prioritized last on the network. T-Mobile's own materials note that rural areas tend to see speeds toward the lower end of the advertised range.
Fiber works differently: your connection runs on a dedicated line straight to your home, not shared airtime on a cell tower with everyone else's phone traffic nearby. That's a big part of why fiber tends to hold up more consistently, especially during the evening rush when everyone's online at once.
