This one's for my team.
This summer has reminded me just how much a good team matters.
We've covered for each other through sick days, vacations, family needs, unexpected changes, and all the little things that come up when you're running a busy business. And through it all, people keep showing up. That means more to me than you probably realize.
After a lifetime of working long days and very few days off — building, fixing, planning, and always having the next thing on my mind — it's hard to turn that part of my brain off. I'll take three things off my list and somehow come up with seven more.
My goal is to eventually reach a point where I'm not doing business stuff seven days a week. I want more time for family, more time to enjoy life, and honestly… more time to just breathe.
But I also have to admit something: I love what I've built.
I'm incredibly grateful to have a successful business that offers so many different services and products. There's a lot that goes into keeping Safe Ship running, and I need to be involved in all of it — not because I don't trust my team, but because this business is a huge investment for my family, my time, my energy, my heart, my goals, and my life. I've had people come and go over the years, but as the owner, I'm the one who sticks it out through thick and thin.
But I'm also realizing that caring for something you built doesn't mean you have to carry everything yourself.
That's where my team comes in.
Walk into Safe Ship any day and you'll see a clean, organized store that smells wonderful. What you may not see is everything that happens behind the scenes to make that possible.
The donated boxes and packing materials come through our doors constantly. Every usable piece has to be sorted, carried, organized, and given a place so that when we need it, we can actually find it. There are shipments to handle, customers to help, paperwork to complete, shelves to keep stocked, and a hundred little things that most people never notice.
And somehow, my team keeps it all moving.
I'm proud of what Safe Ship has become, but I'm even more grateful for the people who help me keep it going.
I've spent a lifetime working hard — Safe Ship has just been the last decade of it — building this business and creating something that matters. Maybe the next chapter isn't about working harder.
Maybe it's about learning to trust the people beside me, letting go of a few things, and finally allowing myself to enjoy what I worked so hard to build.
I'm not there yet.
But I'm working on it.
