The ONLY number for reporting wildfires in Okanogan County, WA is 911.

We are seeing a post from Canada get traction on this side of the border that contains confusing and potentially dangerous information. We won't repeat it here for fear of perpetuating it, but in our county 911 is the number for reporting any emergency including wildfires.

We're hearing of maybe some lightning in the next couple days. We want to respond immediately to any smoke reports. Please don't be afraid to call them in, but please call 911 and not any other number you've seen on the interweb.

Excellent video update today from the crew working on the Kaiser Canyon Fire. In particular, the little dagger that's been pointed our way seems to be well in hand.

The closest approach of fire to our district remains unchanged at about 14 miles. The wind is blowing away from the district.

A little late getting to this tonight. There are no changes to any of the fires that would affect our district.

We did have a smoke report today that came in via a direct call to our business line. The person also posted a picture on our retired FB “group” that we rarely monitor.

We appreciate the person sounding the alarm. But smoke is an emergency and the way to report it is by calling 911. You can also text to 911 if you don’t have enough service to make a voice call work.

We’re a small volunteer fire department. We don’t have an office staff. Our “business line” is a cell phone carried by our chief. If he’s out of cell service you won’t get an answer.

We likewise can’t monitor Facebook 24/7.

Don’t be afraid to call 911. It’s no bother. That’s what they’re there for.

Looks like drift smoke from some other fire. Our units are driving to several different vantage points to confirm.

Nightly Aeneas Valley threat update for Monday, 8/3.

If you look at that little outbreak that’s been pointed at us for most of two weeks, the red heat blobs are gone. There’s still heat there, but the sensors aren’t showing red, and the wind is blowing away from the district.

Absent changes, we’ll dial back these daily updates as things seem stable for now.

Please know that we continue to monitor and if we see anything concerning we’ll share it here.

Here's your PM threat update for Aeneas Valley on Sunday, Aug. 2.

Winds are out of the northwest, which is favorable to us for both the Kaiser Canyon and Sinlahekin fires. The threat is never zero, of course. But this is about the best wind direction we could hope for.

We did have a temporary threat to the district today, in the form of a small fire along SR 20 about 8 miles from Tonasket. It was the city's call, so not our place to say much. But we noted that passersby jumped into action and had the fire danged near out by the time we got there. One fellow had a tank of water on his pickup and used it to good effect.

We never encourage people to put themselves in danger by responding to a fire call as a freelancer. You lack training, communications and proper clothing. But these folks were just driving by, saw a fire, and got after it.

We are absolutely grateful for their efforts.

Here’s the PM fire threat update for Aeneas Valley on Saturday August 1.

We want to start out by acknowledging the great work of Aeneas Valley residents today. Every single one of you.

Our threat was a new start that would blow up in the wind. We didn’t get one. There’s a lot to be sad about tonight but please allow yourself a smidgen of pride in our community.

Every brush truck and every helicopter that didn’t come to Aeneas Valley was able to be used in neighboring communities who needed them badly. Not having a fire of our own is a very real contribution.

As for the current threat from the Kaiser Canyon Fire…the wind is now blowing away from our fire district. And per the Ops Chief’s briefing today, their good work over the past days kept our side of the fire in its current footprint. Lots of flame, smoke and heat inside the perimeter but not much fire growth.

OK…we got through today. Let’s do it again tomorrow by all staying out there. And of course keep our neighbors in Tonasket, Loomis, Ellisforde and Spokane in your thoughts.

It’s a very positive update on the Kaiser Canyon Fire. Lots of fire and smoke within the perimeter, but it’s staying within the perimeter.

Good Morning. Here’s your Aeneas Valley fire threat update for Saturday AM on 8/1.

As predicted, winds are already shifting in a way that would blow most fire east of our district. The forecast is for an even more dramatic shift later in the day which would actively blow fire away from us.

The threat today is from a new start within our district that would blow up quickly. Please be careful with any power tools and obviously no fires of any kind.

We and others have also said loudly- have a backup power plan for your WiFi. If winds takes out the power you still need to receive alerts.

We do not CURRENTLY have any evacuation advisories in place for Aeneas Valley. But if you think it would take extra time to help a disabled family member, corral animals or navigate a potholed road, then trust your gut and go early.

This will be a tough day but we will get through it. Let’s all stay out there.

Here’s the Friday 7/31 PM threat update for Aeneas Valley.

Tomorrow’s winds are the big threat, but the worst of them are forecast to be a little bit south of Aeneas Valley. That doesn’t mean we won’t have strong winds, just not AS strong as Nespelem and Disautel.

The winds are forecast to be at their worst during the part of the afternoon when the humidity drops. Humidity is a big factor in how easily material will burn. This is a bad combination.

Power outages, preventative or wind-blown, are possible. Make sure your phone is charged and you have backup power for your internet hook-up. Remember also…if your power goes out your well probably won’t work. If you have the means to store extra water, do so.

They’ve added the phrase “Particularly Dangerous Situation” to the normal Red Flag warning. Believe them.

We can’t have any new fire starts tomorrow. Please be careful with any tools or equipment you use.

Worse, it will be hard to see new smoke columns if there’s a general haze from other fires. But please keep your eyes open. If you see something say something. If there is a start we need to be on it quickly.
