Weekend road trip to pick up some mining equipment. Made a stop at the Tonopah Mining Park. Had such a great trip with one of my boys. Lots of shenanigans and great memories made.

Thank you Kari Lusby for letting us go pick up some new toys (I mean tools - cough, cough).

About time I got back underground and got in a little work. What little routine I had has been tossed out the window the last few weeks. It’s been fun having the boys around everyday (well most of the time anyways).

Tightening up fish plates and repairing old broken bolts. Feels good to get dirty and get some work done.

With the riffles completed it’s time to start working on the launders. Should be a pretty quick portion of the shaker table.

The solution I worked up for cutting the riffles was to use a carbide router bit. Rubber is quite abrasive so had to use two to finish the job. Once complete I had to go back and sand any roughness left. Worked out pretty good. If I ever do it again I’ll likely setup a grinding fixture as rubber grinds very well. The riffles taper so used duct tape to build up my jig to the correct taper. Done and done.

Santa hooked up his lowboy and 600 reindeer powered sleigh and dropped off this present a couple days before Christmas. Won’t fit underground but it’ll sure move some dirt at the house.

Happy Holidays and the best wishes to you all for a wonderful 2020.

Sunday the family and I went on an 8 mile hike up to an old mining camp dating back to the California Gold Rush. Along the way we saw a lot of old surface mine workings and the remnants of some mining equipment. The steep canyons and rough terrain were difficult to hike. I can’t imagine what it would have been like in the 1800’s to be in this area mining. Although the mining camp is almost non existent aside from an old shack, the time with the family was well worth the trip.
