Happy Birthday Topeka, Ks!!!🎂🎉🎈

It's our birthday! 🎂🎉🎈 On December 5, 1854, nine men met and drew up an agreement which sparked the start of the City of Topeka we know today. To celebrate our 163rd Birthday, we're sharing some facts about :
1) Topeka High School, opened in 1931, was the first million dollar high school west of the Mississippi River with construction costs totaling $1.75 million.
2) Topeka was one of the Free State towns founded by antislavery men in 1854 after the passage of the Kansas-Nebraska Act.
3) Lake Shawnee in southeast Topeka is the location of the first and only fully staked 400-meter dash rowing course in the world.

Since 1926 the Jayhawk tower has been part of Topeka heritage. Topeka's Danl Blackwood of Astra Lunar Photography took this beautiful photo of these Topeka landmarks sharing the sky.
