It is sad to see another great mind of the industry pass. RIP to our good friend and prayers to the Snively family. We will all miss you Ron.

Paula Colletti Snively said, “I am so sad to report that Ron Snively lost his fight with the rare lung infection. After being diagnosed just 13 days ago, Ron passed peacefully today, 4/5/26 at 1:49 pm. The children & I were all surrounding him. Our hearts are broken.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 11th at Mayes Ward Dobbins Funeral Home, Macland Road, Powder Springs. Details will follow. Thank you to all who have sent prayers & support to help us through this difficult time. Words cannot express what your kind words have meant.”

He was a former President of SAVTA, and was very supportive of the security industry as a whole. He will be missed. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his wife and family.

It is a New Year with new opportunities. These opportunities include getting a bit more education under your belt to increase your knowledgebase to better serve your customers. We at TMi believe in continuing education of the Safe & Vault Technician and therefore support the efforts of SAVTA.org .
SAVTA has just released their full convention brochure with 16 new classes along with a host of their regular classes. I hear they even have a good time lock servicing program. Personally, I am truly impressed with the addition of a number of business education classes they have added. I had a phone call today from a field tech who was thrown his first time lock call. The best part of the call was found in the first 30 seconds of his dialog.

He identified himself and his lack of experience. He then proceeded to describe his current issue. "I have reinstalled the movement and put the rest of the parts in, but when I push in the brass plunger it is firm and won't stay down." Lucky for both of us, there is only one very common housing with a brass plunger.

Since he was a complete novice to time lock, we had a good bit of function basics to cover from putting a couple of hours wind on the movements to locking the door open to test. Along the lines of discussion, we came to a point where show-and-tell became important. The below pictures are what came about. See pictures for more specific dialog.

The long and short for this tech and this unit was an experience that most have when they see an S&G 2-movement (6280 series) for the first time. With everything installed, you cannot see where the straight leg of the spring is. It is inevitable that when you pull the trigger that the spring will come up as well and the leg will snap out of place.

We had a great time meeting and chatting with all of the attendees at this years FSPA Showcase in beautiful Greenville, SC. We look forward to doing it all again next year in Nashville.

Safetech in Lexington would not be complete without a visit to Lockmasters in Nicholasville. Thank you to Joe, Brian, and staff for hosting the kick-off party and FOS auction. Congratulations as well to the entire team on 70 years of business. It was a great time with good food and lots of laughs providing great memories.
