Defined Futures: Identity, Leadership & Career Readiness Experience is an 8-session experience designed to help TCALC students discover their strengths, develop leadership skills, explore future pathways, and prepare for life after high school.

This experience is for students who are still figuring it out, students who already have a plan, and everyone in between. You don’t have to know exactly what you want to do after high school. You just need to be willing to explore what’s possible.

Students: This is your opportunity to discover more about yourself, your strengths, your voice, and the future you want to build.

Parents & Guardians: This is an opportunity to support your student as they explore their options, build confidence, and begin making intentional decisions about what comes next.

Your future doesn’t have to look like anyone else’s. Let’s define what’s next, together!

Too many people spend their lives chasing a title.

Very few spend time discovering who they are.

But identity changes everything.

When you know who you are, you stop asking, “What job should I have?” and start asking, “What impact am I here to make?”

Titles can be given.
Titles can be taken away.

Purpose can’t.

At Destiny Defined, we believe leadership doesn’t begin with a position—it begins with identity. Because when people understand who they are, they naturally move toward where they’re meant to be.

Don’t let a job title define your worth.

Let your identity guide your purpose.

Every great event has a team behind it—and this camp was no different. 🏀🖤

From our dedicated coaches and volunteers to the prizes, awards, and all the little details that helped bring the day together, so much heart went into creating this experience for our youth and their families.

A special thank you to Envista Federal Credit Union for capturing these behind-the-scenes moments and professional headshots.

While the action on the court was unforgettable, these photos highlight the people and details that often go unseen but make all the difference.

We’re grateful for every volunteer, every coach, every community partner, and every person who helped make this day one to remember. 🖤

This weekend, Destiny Defined had the honor of being part of a Back-to-School community event hosted by Apostolic Church of Jesus Christ here in Topeka. 🖤

The event was filled with food, school supplies, activities, and community connection. We provided a bead-making activity where youth created jewelry for themselves, their families, or someone special to them.

The best part was hearing youth share their interests, dreams, and the things that bring them joy while building connections with each other and the community. That’s what this work is about — creating spaces where young people feel seen, heard, and empowered.

Grateful to the organizers, volunteers, and everyone who helped make this day possible. ✨

Workforce development is often discussed through the lens of skills, credentials, and employment readiness.

And while those things matter — I believe we have to expand the conversation.

Communication and leadership development are workforce development.

Because how someone communicates, navigates conflict, advocates for themselves, builds relationships, manages emotions, and recognizes their own strengths directly impacts how they show up in the workplace and in their community.

Too often, programs are designed as a one-size-fits-all model where people are expected to fit into the structure — without fully considering their identity, culture, lived experiences, environment, and the systems they’ve had to navigate.

But people are not boxes to check.

Leadership is not a position.
Leadership is not a title.
Leadership is an action.

Anyone can be an impactful leader — but it starts with recognizing that leadership is defined by the person, not assigned by someone else.

A culturally responsive approach to workforce development asks a different question:

“Who is this person, what strengths do they already carry, and how do we build from there?”

When we invest in the whole person, we don’t just prepare individuals for jobs.

We strengthen communities.

A referral can be a resource.
But sometimes, a relationship is the bridge.

When we talk about supporting underserved communities, we often focus on connecting people to programs, services, and systems — and those things matter. But many times, individuals don’t need another cold handoff.

They need someone in the community to say:

“I see you.”
“I’m not just giving you a number — I’m going to help you navigate this.”
“I know who to call. I know where to go. Let me walk with you through this.”

That doesn’t remove accountability from the individual. In fact, accountability and support can exist together.

True community care recognizes that healing often begins when someone experiences safety, trust, and genuine investment from another person. For some, that may be the first time they’ve felt that a system or community was built with them — not just around them.

Culturally Responsive Trauma-Informed Care (CR-TIC) reminds us that people are shaped by their lived experiences, environments, and relationships. If we want sustainable change, we have to move beyond transactions and build communities where connection is part of the intervention.

Wraparound healing will require more than referrals.

It will require people willing to show up and say:

“Your well-being matters, and I’m willing to be part of the solution.”
