If your business uses Microsoft 365, you've probably seen Teams, SharePoint, and OneDrive—but many people aren't sure when to use each one.

Here's a simple breakdown:

OneDrive
Best for your personal work files.
Think of it as your own digital filing cabinet. Files are private unless you choose to share them.

Teams
Best for collaboration and communication.
Use it for chat, video meetings, and working together on files with your team.

SharePoint
Best for company-wide documents.
Policies, procedures, forms, and shared folders that everyone needs access to should typically live in SharePoint.

A simple rule:

• My files = OneDrive
• Team files = Teams
• Company files = SharePoint

Using the right tool makes it easier to find documents, collaborate with coworkers, and keep business information organized.

Not sure if your Microsoft 365 environment is set up correctly? We offer a free network assessment and can help identify opportunities to improve collaboration, security, and productivity.

Think of a firewall as the security guard for your business network.

Every time someone or something tries to connect to your computers, website, or files, the firewall checks whether it's safe or suspicious.

It helps:
✅ Block hackers and unwanted visitors
✅ Stop dangerous websites and malware
✅ Control who can access your business network
✅ Add an extra layer of protection for your data

Without a firewall, your network is like leaving your office door unlocked after hours.

A firewall won't stop every cyber threat, but it's one of the most important tools for keeping your business protected.

Not sure if your firewall is properly protecting your business? Send me a message for a free network assessment.

Many business owners try to squeeze a few more years out of aging computers to save money.

But when a computer suddenly crashes, slows everyone down, or stops working completely, the real cost isn't the device itself—it's the lost productivity, missed deadlines, downtime, and frustration.

A reliable computer helps your team work faster, stay productive, and avoid unexpected interruptions.

If your employees spend more time waiting for their computers than actually working, it may be time for an upgrade. Sometimes the cheapest option ends up being the most expensive.

Not sure if your computers and network are slowing your business down? Schedule your free network assessment today.

One thing we’ve noticed with many small businesses: Most IT problems don’t start as emergencies.

They usually start as:
• a slow computer
• random Wi-Fi drops
• storage warnings
• outdated equipment
• temporary fixes
• “we’ll deal with it later”

And honestly, that’s understandable. When you’re busy running a business, technology often gets pushed to the bottom of the list because everything still “mostly works.”

But over time, small issues turn into:
• downtime
• frustrated employees
• lost productivity
• security risks
• expensive emergency fixes

The reality is, temporary IT fixes have a way of becoming permanent.

The businesses that avoid major disruptions usually aren’t the ones with the most expensive technology. They’re the ones that deal with small issues before they become big ones.

Sometimes the best IT decision is simply addressing the warning signs early.

Most businesses think cyberattacks start with an employee clicking the wrong email.

Sometimes, attackers don’t even need that.

An outdated or exposed VPN can become the easiest way into your network — no phishing, no stolen password, no warning signs.

That’s what makes traditional VPN access risky:
• It’s exposed to the internet
• Attackers constantly scan for vulnerabilities
• One missed patch can lead to downtime, ransomware, or data loss

The scary part?
Many companies don’t realize they’ve been compromised until operations are already affected.

Modern security is shifting away from “opening the network” and moving toward Zero Trust access:
✔ Users only access what they need
✔ Applications stay hidden from public exposure
✔ Less attack surface for hackers to target

Cybersecurity today isn’t just about stronger passwords or better antivirus.
It’s about reducing exposure before attackers ever get a chance.

If your business still relies heavily on traditional VPN access, it may be time to rethink the architecture behind your remote access strategy.

A good starting point is simply asking:
“Do we really need to expose our network this way?”

Sometimes the biggest security improvement starts with the right conversation.

Working remotely is convenient, but it also comes with a few risks if things aren’t set up properly.

A few simple steps can make a big difference:

• Use a VPN when accessing company systems
• Avoid public WiFi when handling work data
• Enable multi-factor authentication
• Keep devices updated and patched

These small habits help protect your business, your data, and your team.

Moving into a new office is a big step for your business.
It’s a fresh space, a new environment, and an opportunity to set things up the right way from day one.

Along with furniture and layout, your IT setup plays a big role in how smoothly your team gets started.

Here are a few things to plan ahead:
• Internet installation and activation
• Network and firewall setup
• Proper WiFi coverage across the office
• Organized device and workstation setup

When everything is prepared in advance, your team can walk in and get to work without delays.

If you’re planning an office move, we can help you get your IT ready before day one so everything runs smoothly.

Lock your computer when you walk away

It sounds like a small thing, but it’s one of the easiest ways data gets exposed. You step away for a minute. Coffee, quick chat, short meeting.
Your computer is still open.

Emails, files, client information, even system access are all right there.

It doesn’t take anything complicated. Just a few seconds and the wrong person nearby.

That’s why simple habits matter.

Locking your screen before leaving your desk is one of the easiest ways to protect your business. No tools, no extra cost, just consistency.

If you have a team, this is something worth reinforcing regularly.

Security doesn’t always start with big systems. It starts with small actions.

The 3-2-1 Backup Rule

Many businesses have backups in place but don’t know if they’ll actually work when something goes wrong.

Backups aren’t about having something in place it’s about knowing it will actually work when you need it.

There’s a simple standard we always go back to:

• 3 copies of your data
• 2 different storage types
• 1 offsite backup

Nothing complicated, but it covers you from the usual issues which are hardware failure, accidental deletion, even ransomware.

Because when something breaks, your backup is what keeps everything moving. If you’re not fully confident in your setup, it’s probably worth taking a closer look.
