This hunter shot this nice buck on a power line. He said the buck just took off running hard when shot. He waited a little while and went to find him. He couldn’t find anything at the shot site but started finding little drops of blood where he went into the timber. He tracked him a little ways but was only finding small drops of blood so not wanting to jump the deer or mess up the track he called me.
A couple hrs later me ,Justin Campbell and Braxton loaded the dogs up and headed his way.
Where met them at the driveway to the field and followed them in. We parked 30-40 yards from the shot site to unload the dogs.
Like always I put the tracking collars on my dogs and turn them out to run around and unload while I’m getting boots and all on. While putting my briar bibs on the hunter says your dog is already on the trail and gone. I looked at my Garmin and sure enough they were already 200 yards away. I got my light and all on and looked back at my Garmin and they were 256 yards and sitting still with the buck dead in his bed. They had him found before we could get dressed.

Got a call from a man saying his son had been hunting with his granddad and had shot a good buck. They said the buck was walking when he shot and did a mule kick and ran into the timber. A few minutes later a big doe came across the shooting lane and stopped for a minute so the granddad told him to shoot her too. When he got there to help find them they found a big spot of white hair at the spot where the doe had been shot and nothing where the buck was. They told him the buck had ran one direction and the doe ran a little different. He walked in the direction the buck went and found blood and started tracking it. He made it a short distance and jumped a deer up so he backed out and called me.
It was 10 hrs later when we made it to the shot site. I put DeBo on the blood trail and he went straight to work. We watched on the Garmin as he went 300 or so yards through the timber before making a hard left and dropping off into a pine thicket and torwards a pond. We started following his trail and before long we heard him at the pond barking letting me know he had found the deer. We made it to the pond and got the deer but it wasn’t the big buck he had hoped for. Turned out to be a spike that they thought was the doe. The blood they found turned out to be from it not the bigger buck. We went back to the shot site and sent DeBo the direction the buck had went but he never picked up on anything so we called it a miss. A couple days later we got confirmation that it was indeed a miss.

Got the call from Brian Tekulve yesterday morning saying his dad had shot a nice buck. They found white hair at the shot site and tracked the buck several hundred yards before losing blood and backing out. The deer was headed towards his neighbors property so he talked to them and they gave us permission to track it after dark. I had another track right before dark. On that track we jumped the buck and ran it across onto another property so we had to call it off. It was around 8:30 when we finally made it to them.
Me Justin Campbell and Braxton turned the dogs out where the deer had crossed a creek 150 yards or so from the shot site. We watched the dogs on the Garmin and followed along. Me made it to last blood the hunters had found it just a few minutes. From there the dogs went another 350-400 yards to find the deer dead in a pine thicket. The buck was shot low in the guts. The total track was around 700-800 yards.

DeBo with another one.

The hunter took a shot at this nice buck and knew he hit him a little far back. He got down and went and looked at the shot site and confirmed it by seeing gut matter and blood. After tracking him a short distance he backed out and called me.

A couple hrs later DeBo got started at the shot site. He didn’t waste any time and was a couple hundred yards away in just a couple minutes.
We started following his track on the Garmin and found the bucks first bed 300 yards from the shot site. From there DeBo crossed a cow pasture and into a stand of hardwoods. We were making our way there when we heard barking but it wasn’t DeBo. A minute or so later we seen a wild dog running out of the hardwoods. I looked at the Garmin and seen DeBo was sitting still. We made our way to him and found him with the buck. We found signs of a struggle so we think the wild dogs must have jumped him out his bed and caught him in the hardwoods. The track was just a little over 600 yards total.

DeBo putting in work last night!

The hunter was hunting on a gas line and had this nice buck come by around 3:30. He waited until he was broadside and took the shot. The buck kicked up and ran into a pine thicket. The hunters dad was hunting nearby so they decided to wait until dark to start tracking. They didn’t find any blood at the shot site but found some in the thicket about 30 yards off the gas line. They tracked him a short distance before losing blood and backing out.
It was 6 hrs after the shot when DeBo got to work. He entered the thicket where the buck had gone earlier. We stood in the field and watched him on the Garmin as he worked around for a few minutes before finally getting the track lined out. He crossed a field road about 140 yards away so we drove around and parked there to try and find blood where the buck had crossed. While we were looking for blood at the road DeBo had made it another 200 yards away in another thicket where he started barking letting me know he had found the buck alive. Looking at the Garmin I could tell he was in a pond. We made our way there and found the buck swimming with DeBo right on his tail. I could tell the buck was very weak and before I knew it DeBo was on his back and had him dead in the pond. The buck was shot low in the guts.

Got the call from Joeseph mears yesterday needing help finding a buck. He was hunting behind his house and had only been out there a short time when this buck came through. Joe took the shot and the buck kicked up and ran a short distance before laying down. Joe could see him with his head up so he took a follow up shot and the buck got up and ran. He found blood and tracked him a short ways before jumping the buck up and backing out.
After giving him several hrs the dogs got started at the shot site and didn’t waste any time. We stood there talking and watching the dogs on the Garmin. After a few minutes the dogs started barking at a pond 400 yards away letting me know they had the deer.
We made it to the pond and found the buck in the water. Luckily we had our boys with us and luckily for them it was warm yesterday but they said that water sure wasn’t!

DeBo with another one.
The buck was shot quartering away from the hunter and ran a short distance before laying down in the field. The hunter watched the deer lay there for couple minutes and then took another shot. At the second shot the buck got up and ran into a nearby thicket.
The hunter decided to back out and give me a call.
I told him it was likely a gut shot and to just leave him alone and we’d give him a couple hrs then go get him.
DeBo worked aroun in the field while the hunter and I looked for blood. DeBo worked around a minute then hit a trail into the thicket. I walked over to the spot he entered and seen the first spot of blood. After a couple minutes he found the buck dead in his bed.

Got a call from a hunter saying he took a long shot on a really good buck. He got two shots at the buck. He said the buck never moved after the first shot so he aimed a little higher on the second shot. At the second shot the buck set back on his rear end and whirled around and took off. The buck was across a really deep creek from the hunter so he had to drive around the road and come from the side the deer was on. Once at the shot site all he found was the marks the deer made when he took off running and some running tracks in the mud. After looking around for a little while and not finding any blood or anything he backed out and called me.
I decided to use Ol Bo and DeBo on this one.
At the shot site they worked around for a minute and then hit a track in the direction the deer had ran. We followed along as they went 150 yards across a cut corn field and across a hedge row and into a wheat field. They worked out in the field aways and were circling around about 200 yards from where we were. I could see the lights on their collars blinking as they were working around. After several minutes I was still watching and waiting on Bo to get it lined out again when I finally noticed DeBo was 150 yards away in a grown up field sitting still. We made our way over to him and sure enough he had the buck dead in his bed. The buck was shot low shoulder and travel just a little over 400 yards with no blood along the way and very little in his bed.

Debo helped get another First deer for a little boy yesterday. Got a message from his parents that he had shot one and they needed help finding it. I was busy the first half of the day so I told them it would be after lunch before I could make it.
We finally got to the shot site and DeBo got started.
He worked around for a few minutes then started making his way down a field road 10-15 yards before cutting into a thick cutover. Once he got into the cutover I walked around and found only a few small spots of blood. After a couple minutes of looking for blood I looked at the Garmin and realized he was 70 yards away sitting still. I made my way through the thicket to him and sure enough he was sitting with the deer. The little boy had a basketball game so he wasn’t there for the recovery but his mother sent me a pic of him with it smiling ear to ear.
