Dryer Fires are Real!
But they can be prevented!
Long but Important Read...
Dryer Fires are not rare events—they are a very real and serious Safety Concern in homes across the country. According to data from the U.S. Fire Administration, there are thousands of Dryer-Related Fires reported each year, with Failure to Clean being the leading cause. What often starts as simple Lint Buildup can quickly turn into a High-Heat, Restricted Airflow situation that creates the perfect environment for Ignition Inside the Dryer.
What many homeowners don’t realize is that Lint doesn’t just collect in the Lint Screen. It builds up inside the Internal Cavity of the Dryer—around the Heating Element, Motor, Blower Housing, and other critical components. Over time, this buildup restricts airflow, causing the unit to run hotter and longer than it should. That excess heat, combined with highly flammable lint, is what leads to Internal Dryer Fires.
Another important factor that doesn’t get talked about enough is that a large percentage of these fires never get officially reported. Many Dryer Fires start and are partially or fully extinguished inside the machine itself—either because the unit shuts down, the flame burns out due to lack of oxygen, or the issue goes unnoticed. By the time a technician opens the dryer, what’s left is often Burnt Lint and residue, not an active fire. This means the true number of Dryer Fire Incidents is likely much higher than what’s documented.
Because of this risk, Manufacturers Recommend Routine Maintenance that goes beyond just cleaning the lint screen. This includes Internal Dryer Cleaning, Component Cleaning, and ensuring proper Airflow Through the Dryer System. Without this level of maintenance, the dryer is forced to operate under stress, which not only increases Fire Risk but also leads to Premature Part Failure and reduced efficiency.
Regular Dryer Maintenance, Internal Cleaning, and Professional Inspection is not just about performance—it’s about safety. Keeping the inside of the dryer free of lint buildup helps maintain proper airflow, reduces strain on components, and significantly lowers the risk of an Internal Dryer Fire. It’s a preventative step that protects both the appliance and the home it’s operating in.
This is something we see every day. We perform what we call a TGR Core Clean, which focuses on removing internal lint buildup and making sure your dryer is operating safely and efficiently. If you’re looking to stay ahead of potential issues and keep your home safe, we’d be glad to help.
