Repost from

RESET — A collaborative exhibition of botanical theme artwork by artists Nancy Jaramillo and Catherine Labbé.

RECEPTION: AUGUST 11, 2022, 5:00 until 9:00 PM

TWO EXTRA DAYS TO SEE THE ARTWORKS:
AUGUST 12-13, 5:00 until 9:00 PM

LOCATION: Wilkinson ART, 39 Blair Street, Greenville SC 29607.
NOTE: This gallery is in a residential setting located downtown Greenville, South Carolina. Parking is free, along the curb.

Join us for a presentation of artworks coming about through two artists' collaborative sessions and meetings over the last eighteen months, focusing on botanical subject matter.

The art features juxtapositions of exotic cultivars and common garden flowers, genres such as the traditional flower still-life injected with a subversive element: wild weeds, and compositions of plant decay and debris.

Please share and pass the word to your phyto-curious friends.

IMAGES: Left: Offering to the Garden of Eden, by Catherine Labbé. Right: Seventeen Magnolia Leaves, by Nancy Jaramillo.

--- This exhibition is made possible by a grant from MAC | Metropolitan Arts Council, Greenville SC.

“Even at 101 years old, he still spent most days in the studio, driven by, as he described with his characteristic humility, ‘this almost neurotic fixation of trying to learn to paint.’”

He mastered the textures of frosting, meringue, and donut glaze, but was also known for his dizzying cityscapes and Pop-like humor.

St. Jean de Luz was a favorite subject of F. Edwin Church, who was named after the Hudson River Artist. The Oyster Bay Guardian described his final show, a retrospective held March 9, 1975: “Hundreds of people attended the one-day exhibition…the walls of the gallery were covered…Church stood greeting the guests…until the crowd became so large, he was ushered to a seat of honor, sheltered from the throngs.”.
By the time of his death 3 months later, the identity of the 20th-century Frederic Edwin Church was slowly being obscured by the fame and popularity of the 19th-century Frederic Edwin Church (1826-1900). To distinguish himself from the Hudson River artist, he signed his works “F. Edwin Church” and was quick to point out that there was no family relation.
