For more than 27 years Lloyd has been at the intersection of governance and organizational activity at ChildServe in Johnston Iowa. Lloyd's leadership style can best be described
a a partnership between board and organizational leadership. The success of that partnership has positively impacted the strategic growth and development of ChildServe its mission to children with special health care needs since 1992. The organizational development and growth was guided through an intentional and disciplined strategic planning process. The process produced strategic plans that served as a road map for governance and the organization as it extended the mission from 125 children in 1992 to more than 4,500 children in 2019. The success of that partnership with governance and organizational leaders led him to explore that nature of that relationship in his doctoral research at the University of St.Thomas in Minneapolis, MN. What emerged from the doctoral research was a new theory on Governance Partnership. The parameters of the research and its findings are documented in his doctoral dissertation entitled: The Governance Partnership in Nonprofit Organizations: The Board Chair and the Chief Executive. Lloyd has served on the boards of directors of many nonprofit human service and mental health organizations as well as several college boards of trustees. In these situations he also served as the chair of the board. These experiences have shaped his view of nonprofit governance and the importance of the governance partnership.
