Our farm is now USDA certified organic. The certification process definitely helped us establish a structure for documentation and procedures, but will it help us financially is TBD. I do think that consumers need to be more educated in general, as the USDA owns the word Organic. And just because something has a certified Organic seal on it, does NOT mean it is healthier. In fact, most small farms manage their farms “organically”, and would never do some of the things you are allowed to do under NOP.
