Shortly after 9 pm last night, 08.26.26, our department was dispatched to another fire which was believed to be just North of the Owen Canyon Fire up on the Promontory Range. An airplane spotted this fire, named the “Bushy Canyon Fire”, that was estimated to be between 30 to 50 acres initially. Once resources were on scene it was determined to be about 150 acres and growing.
Due to high erratic winds pushing the fire, it has grown to about 9,600 acres with Zero containment at this time.
We are grateful for the multiple ground and air resources that are working this fire, as well as a shoutout to our own volunteers for their countless hours out this wildland season.

For further updates on the as they become available, make sure to follow Utah Fire Info, Box Elder County, and Box Elder County Fire.

Ever wonder how aviation pulls water out of pumpkins on a fire. Check out this video by McKayla Shannon from the Owen Canyon Fire.
This is one of the reasons we love what we do. How cool is that?!

Our department, along with Corinne FD and Box Elder County Fire, were dispatched to the Promontory Range shortly after 7:30 pm last night, 08.22.26, for a grass fire that was estimated to be about 50 acres.
Once the “Owen Canyon Fire” was located, it was determined to be inaccessible until a dozer/grater was able to make a path for vehicles to get up into it or for personnel to hike into. They started the work to make a path last night while the ground crew worked on setting up pumpkins for air attack to be able to draft from. Luckily, a shift in wind helped the fire to back burn on itself and slow progression in the rough terrain.
A task force, aviation, and the local fire crews were able to get a running start early this morning and knock down the embers to be able to contain this fire by the end of the day today. This fire was determined to be a total of 9.33 acres.
Lightening was seen through-out the night and day, which caused a lot of spot fires to pop up throughout the county and spread resources thin. Luckily, this one was in a good spot that did minimal damage.
