Are you planning to hire a contractor?
1. Look them up on Sunbiz. See if they are an active corporation. If you dont see them, ask if they are under a DBA (Doing Business As) under another name.
2. Where are they out of? Search that county court records and surrounding counties. This is to see if they have any local lawsuits. This doesnt guarantee you'll see everything, but its a start.
3. Ask for a COI (Certificate Of Insurance).
Ask who their insurance carrier for the business is, call them up, too! COIs can be forged so be proactive. Ask their carrier if they are insured.
This doesnt guarantee no problems, but its a good way to start protecting yourself.
I went one step further.
Everything checked out, but I wanted a personal guarantee from the business owner INCLUDING if that person declares personal (or business) bankruptcy. That may help in case they try to hide behind the LLC.

Tomorrow marks a day I’ve been anticipating since little Demiah Appling’s body was found after she was abducted and murdered in Dixie County. Over time, I’ve come to know and deeply care about Demiah’s family, and I hope my colleague and friend Tammy Jones and I can offer the emotional support that will be so needed for her grandmother, Monday. This is when the trial begins for the accused killer, Waymore Gerhardt. The week ahead will be heartbreaking, and I’m asking for prayers that justice is served, so Debra Appling can find some measure of closure and peace. Thank you in advance for keeping them in your thoughts.
We will not be available this week at all as far as taking business calls. Thank you for your understanding. This week is all about Demiah.

Don't plug in that flash drive you:

Found in a parking lot
Received in the mail as a "free gift"
Bought from some random online seller

Scammers are using USB drives to deliver malware straight to your computer. The second you plug one in, it can automatically install ransomware, steal your passwords, wipe your data, or spread through your entire network. You might not even realize you've been infected until it's too late.

The mail scam is especially sneaky. Scammers send flash drives disguised as legitimate correspondence from the IRS (claiming tax refund info), health organizations, or companies offering promotional gifts.

They're counting on your curiosity or trust to get you to plug it in. Don't fall for it.

Found one lying around? That "lost" flash drive in the parking lot isn't lost. It's bait. Throw it away.

Got a suspiciously cheap flash drive online? It's probably reprogrammed to show fake storage capacity and will corrupt or delete your files. Or worse, it has malware on it.

Only trust flash drives you personally bought from reputable retailers. If you didn't buy it or specifically order it, throw it away.

Found one at work? Turn it in to your IT department. They can handle it safely and alert others if your workplace is being targeted.

Your data is worth way more than free storage.

The Trenton, Florida Police Department is being disbanded without a citizen vote AND right around the holidays. The officers have to try to find jobs (over the holidays) which y'all know will be dang near impossible to do! They still have bills to pay, kids to feed, and im sure they are concerned about Christmas for them.

Lord have mercy I just had THE FUNNIEST encounter while on surveillance.
This is one of those challenging ones... no street parking, so you get creative. Do you remember Saturday Night Live and the character ShaNayNay?
Keep that in mind while I expound. I've been in my car about 3 hours, no activity, and I see this rather robust woman making a beeline toward my car. I'm thinking, "Well crap, here it goes!"
"Knock Knock Knock" on my window. I thought about not rolling it down, but she knocked again with a bit more "purpose." So I threw it in drive, kept my foot on the brake, and cracked my window... And then it starts, "Whatchu doin here.. I seen you pull up and I seen you never got outta yo car... whatchu doin here!? Before I could answer, she kept on. "I don't care whatchu doin here, there's kids around here and I don't know whatchu up to so you got to go! I'm turning beet red because im trying SO HARD to not bust out laughing! My first thought was Shanaynay must have just given up her day job as a bobble head... its a going all different directions to the beat of her solo rant; I mean my chickens got nothing on this woman! So here I am just dying, can't talk, and she got louder and I knew my target could hear her for sure! The best I could eek out was, "Sorry ma'am," and let my foot off the brake to go change my location. Dang near wet my drawers laughing so hard, but that was so awesome. Truly the most entertaining encounter I have ever had! 🤣
