(DYMYL) Leadership Program at (formally Healthy Relationships, Healthy Choices - HRHC)
Today, our DYMYL young leaders from went on an educational field trip to Isles Center for Energy and Environmental Training (CEET) in Trenton. Andre Thomas, Director of Training & Support, and his staff introduced the students to 7 key factors that create a healthy home environment. They highlighted common hazards found in homes (carbon monoxide, lead, mold, pests, dust, and to***co smoke) and their effects on the health of the occupants. The young leaders also learned about solutions for eliminating these common hazards.
The students were exposed to the training labs at CEET. They learned about the processes and functions of a home energy audit. They learned how to use the various equipment used by building performance professionals. The students conducted several safety tests on a furnace for carbon monoxide that included a gas leak test, combustion safety test, and ventilation test. They also had the opportunity to conduct a blower door test that identifies air leaks in the home. These tests were conducted in a mock home designed for training professionals.
Our overall purpose is to expose our young leaders to a viable career path in the energy and environmental industry. Additionally, we are teaching them practical things they can do now in their home that will create a healthy home environment and impact the health of their families.
