❄️ Refrigerator Cooling Issue — Diagnosed & Repaired

During our diagnostic visit, we found a significant temperature imbalance: the fresh-food compartment was above 55°F, while the freezer was approximately -15°F.

Since this refrigerator uses the freezer evaporator to produce the cold air that is distributed to the fresh-food section, such a large temperature difference strongly indicated an airflow problem rather than a lack of cooling.

The customer also reported occasionally hearing a cracking/clicking noise from the air damper area. After inspecting the damper assembly, we found the damper door stuck in the closed position even though the system was calling for cooling. This prevented enough cold air from reaching the refrigerator compartment.

We replaced the faulty damper assembly with a new OEM part. After installation, the damper began operating normally, cold airflow into the fresh-food compartment was restored, and the temperature started dropping toward the proper range.

Another refrigerator successfully diagnosed and repaired! 🔧❄️

Our customer’s Whirlpool oven had an issue where Bake mode would not start. The control panel responded to button presses and produced normal audible tones, but the Start command was not being registered correctly, preventing the baking cycle from beginning.

After diagnostics, we identified the fault in the user interface/control panel assembly. The defective component was replaced, and the oven is now operating properly again. ✅

A Samsung dryer was stopping shortly after the cycle started and displaying a temperature sensor error.

After disassembling the unit and performing diagnostics, we traced the issue to the dryer thermistor — the temperature sensor responsible for monitoring the exhaust air temperature and providing temperature data to the control board.

Interestingly, the thermistor showed a normal resistance reading during the initial test. However, the dryer continued to trigger the error and stop approximately 5–10 seconds after starting, indicating that the sensor was failing intermittently during operation.

We replaced the faulty thermistor and tested the dryer through multiple cycles. The error is no longer present, and the unit is now operating normally.

Proper diagnosis is especially important with intermittent electrical problems, since a component can sometimes test within normal range and still fail under actual operating conditions.

A dryer that won’t start doesn’t always mean a failed motor or control board.

In this case, the customer’s dryer powered on normally, the control panel was working, but pressing the Start button did absolutely nothing — the drum would not turn and the motor would not start.

After a complete diagnostic, we found that the blower housing thermal cut-off had opened the circuit due to excessive overheating. This safety device is designed to interrupt operation when temperatures become unsafe and help protect the dryer from further damage.

The underlying cause was restricted airflow caused by significant lint buildup and a clogged dryer vent.

We performed a complete repair: replaced the failed thermal cut-off, thoroughly cleaned the dryer’s internal airflow path, and cleaned the ventilation system.

The dryer was restored to normal operation, while the airflow problem that caused the overheating was corrected at the same time.

Proper diagnosis means not only replacing the failed part, but also finding and eliminating the reason it failed in the first place.

Noisy Refrigerator Fan? It Could Be an Early Warning Sign
Is your refrigerator making rattling, humming, or scraping noises? A failing evaporator fan motor is one of the most common causes of cooling issues.
The evaporator fan circulates cold air throughout your fridge and freezer. When it slows down or stops, temperatures rise. However, replacing the fan isn't always the full fix.
In a recent repair, we found a noisy fan was caused by a faulty door mullion (center flap). Warm, humid air was leaking into the fridge, creating heavy frost buildup on the coils. Eventually, the ice reached the fan blades, causing loud noise and restricting airflow—which also stopped the ice maker from working!

A refrigerator that isn’t cooling properly may have more than one problem hiding behind the same symptom.

During a recent service call, we found a heavily iced-over evaporator caused by a failed defrost heating element. The heater was no longer operating properly, preventing the refrigerator from completing its normal defrost cycle and allowing ice to build up around the evaporator coil.

After replacing the heating element, we continued testing the entire defrost system instead of stopping after the first repair.

That additional diagnostic work revealed a second problem: the defrost bi-metal thermostat was not opening as designed when the evaporator warmed up. This thermostat acts as an important temperature-controlled safety device in the defrost circuit. If it remains closed when it should open, the heating element can stay energized longer than intended during the defrost cycle.

Simply replacing the failed heater would not have fully corrected the problem.

By properly testing the complete defrost system, we were able to identify and replace the faulty bi-metal thermostat as well, helping prevent overheating and future failures.

This is why proper appliance repair is more than simply replacing the first failed part. Accurate diagnostics help identify the root cause and make sure the entire system is operating safely and correctly.

One common dryer problem we see is a broken drive belt.

A typical symptom is that the dryer turns on and you can hear the motor running or humming, but the drum does not rotate and stays completely still.

This often points to a problem with the drive belt or another component in the drum drive system, such as worn support rollers, a damaged idler pulley, or, in rare cases, a foreign object preventing the drum from turning properly.

Ignoring these symptoms can place additional stress on other dryer components, so it is best to have the unit inspected before the problem becomes more serious.

A refrigerator ice maker problem can sometimes reveal a much bigger issue in the water supply system.

We recently diagnosed a refrigerator that initially appeared to have a simple ice maker failure. The ice maker was not producing ice, and the mold inside the ice maker was completely dry — a clear sign that water was not reaching the unit properly.

During further diagnostic testing, we discovered a more serious problem with the refrigerator’s water inlet valve system.

This refrigerator uses a primary water valve along with separate internal valve circuits for the water dispenser and the ice maker. Under normal operation, these valves open and close independently depending on whether the refrigerator is dispensing drinking water or filling the ice maker.

In this case, the ice maker section of the water inlet valve had failed internally and was no longer sealing properly.

As a result, whenever the customer pressed the water dispenser paddle, the refrigerator correctly opened the main water supply and dispenser valve — but water was also being pushed through the failed ice maker valve at the same time.

This caused water to flow into the ice maker continuously while the dispenser was being used. The ice maker tray eventually overflowed, water accumulated inside the freezer, and some of that water traveled down into the dispenser area.

Interestingly, this may also explain the original ice maker complaint. Before the failure became more severe, the same valve may have been sticking in the opposite position and preventing water from reaching the ice maker at all. Over time, a worn internal membrane or valve mechanism can begin sticking, leaking, or failing to close properly.

This is a good example of why an ice maker problem is not always caused by the ice maker itself. The issue may be related to the water inlet valve, water pressure, frozen fill tubing, electrical controls, or another part of the refrigerator’s water delivery system.

A proper diagnosis is important before replacing parts.
