New York has outlawed cat declawing: text to follow.

"Agriculture and Markets § 381. Prohibition of the declawing of cats.

1. No person shall perform an onychectomy (declawing), partial or complete phalangectomy or tendonectomy procedure by any means on a cat within the state of New York, except when necessary for a therapeutic purpose. Therapeutic purpose means the necessity to address the physical medical condition of the cat, such as an existing or recurring illness, infection, disease, injury or abnormal condition in the claw that compromises the cat's health. Therapeutic purpose does not include cosmetic or aesthetic reasons or reasons of convenience in keeping or handling the cat.

2. Any person who performs an onychectomy, partial or complete phalangectomy or tendonectomy procedure on any cat within the state of New York in violation of the provisions of subdivision one of this section shall be punishable by a civil penalty not to exceed one thousand dollars."

Getting pulled over by the police is easy. The consequences of that stop depend on the reason for the stop. If you have a light out, an underinflated tire, or even a sticker on the back of your windshield (Vehicle and Traffic Law 375 (1)(b)(i) - The use or placing of posters or stickers on windshields or rear windows of motor vehicles other than those authorized by the commissioner, is hereby prohibited.) you've given a cop an objective reason to pull you over, no matter what the cop's real reason to pull you over is. Fight your ticket with a good attorney, because that sticker is a target to a policeman saying "pull me over".

Fear of domestic violence is a family issue, and can create intense barriers to employment. Recently the New York Supreme Court ruled on the availability of a cliamant who was unable to work due to fear of domestic violence for the purposes of unemployment insurance.

Appeal from a decision of the Unemployment Insurance Appeal Board, filed November 19, 2015, which ruled that claimant was ineligible to receive unemployment insurance benefits because she was not available for employment.
