For the past 20 years we have been a family owned and operated small business in Troy, my wife and myself being equal partners. We have felt supported by our community for the past 2 decades, which is why we feel it is our responsibility to address our most recent advertisement. Over the past 48 hours we have been quite saddend by the response to our most recent advertisement. While it was intended to be a lighthearted joke, we recognize that it was in poor taste and could be interpreted as making light of domestic violence. It was never our intention to offend anyone with our billboard and regardless of intent we understand and take responsibility for the poor judgment behind it. After seeing the response from the community after only 24 hours of the initial post being made we had decided to take down the advertisement. We would also like to make it very clear we do not condone violence against women, men, or any spouses. That is not what we represent as a family or as a business. We are deeply sorry to the people who were upset by it and we regret putting something out in our community that could be interpreted in such a way.
On a personal level this topic has been especially difficult and sensitive for me having grown up most of my childhood in a domestic violence household with an abusive alcoholic father. Who was extremely violent towards my mother as well as my siblings and I, from as early as I can remember until I was 16 and was able to escape. Because of these experiences I have always vowed to be a greater husband and father than my own father and to never be the man he was. For people to suggest I would promote and condone such things has been mortifying. While we understand and respect peoples right to criticize our advertisement we ask the criticism remains only on our advertisement itself. Our family has received threats against me, my wife, and my children. As well some our past customers are being harassed and threatened as well, solely for just using us in the past. We understand and accept responsibility for our unfortunately poor taste advertisement, and to those we have offended. We hear the concern from the community and moving forward we will aim to do better.
